First I've heard of this was See You's reply to Post 26265 and his link
http://www.lubedev.com/articles/additive.htm
I read this article with interest and now I'm wondering if anyone has trie it and what results they got. All informed comments welcome.

I gave it a go for 3 tankfuls.
Same driveing style, filled up at same pump, got the same fuel consumption with or without acetone.
Didnt seem to work for me, others may have better results.

This is a bit of a funny one. It looks like a scam, sounds like a scam, yet they are not selling anything!
Part of me says to try it, and part says 'don't be silly'...
I have not tried it, so I won't comment any further..
Cheers,
Chump

Maybe it does work. Meths does too.
But by the article you need to buy the scanguage (scanguage.com) to really see the difference. :-)
PS - a bit of methylated spirits at about 1/2 a cup to a
tank (60 to 70l) boosts octane rating and gives better fuel consumption in a petrol engine. Damages the rubbers in a carby though over time with steady use. Good only for an occasional boost.

Hypothetical:
If you were to fill your
tank with 50% acetone and 50% petrol and run the
tank dry over a days' driving, then you'd have saved 50% on your petrol bill....

Hi Melissa, I've tried this i originally posted this question back in june here and on this site ACETONE to ask what your asking, go in and look at the comments, i didn't find any change to economy and either did some of the others that tried it.
I think just changing your driving style would help more than acetone added to your fuel or any other of these so called fuel saving products, this i have done with some very suprising results, with only a 10kph (100kph from 110kph) our economy went from 12.5/100 to 11.3/100 average and thats towing our 1.3t camper.
So for me this is what works in saving fuel, not that the Disco eats fuel anyway but every little bit counts.
Baz.

both my mate and I are using acetone in TD Discos and have found reduced smoke and improved economy. The key is not to add too much - 120mls in 80l
tank is optimum...more than this and economy benefits will decrease...

Ether from mothballs or kerosine will increase octain as
well but engine tends to rattle moore & runs hotter! would'nt recomend adding any thing to fuel as engine will suffer eventually!!

I have used the acetone in all of my work vehicles (hzj diesels and turbo diesels). All of these trucks are under 3 years old. The turbos seem to benifit better from the acetone than the non turbos. I have measured fuel improvement up to 25% in turbos and 15% in non turbos. It makes no difference in temp but gives the turbos a noticeable increase in power. None of my vehicles are smokey so I can not comment in improvement to emissions.
This web site is one of about 100 on the net for research in acetone additive. They all state that you MUST use 100% acetone and not the less concentrated stuff.
I just had the injectors taken out for servicing and a fuel pum recalibration last week on a 78 Troopy and my mechanic tells me that the internals are like new and the injectors do not require any work as they are completely within new specs. So I am happy with that side of it.
As far as economy goes I am getting an extra 250 kms on the turbo 100 series vehicles and about 150 kms extra on the standard diesels in the 78 series.
Using too much will give a less effect. Just use the amount that is reccommended and the ratio should be fine. I use 135 ml per 90 litres of diesel fuel
Do a search on this cluster search engine for a better amount of information. Also look at the american forums where hundreds of people submit thier results of acetone testing.

I suspect that the acetone thins out the mix and allows better atomisation of the fuel resulting in better burning and because it is also a solvent it would help keep everything clean as
well.
