Hi there madcow, my mate works for toyota reckons there great nice and quit and plenty of go. Suppose to be better on fuel than the 4.5L but I think it 's still got a lot to do with the right foot. He said no major problems with them so far. He said they like the brake pads more so than the older models, but reckons it's to do with people driving them more
sedan like so they drive harder then brake harder. Very high fuel usage when towing but unless you'v got a diesel what isn't. Apparently using up to 35L per 100kl when towing but that would have to be with a lot of bloody weight behind you I would imagine.Have a great day Take Care Vitara

Hi Madcow
Had the GXL for 12mths and lov it!
Plenty of power and I average about 18lt/100km normal and about 28lt/100km with a 1.5ton camper trailer on board with a family of 5 and all the extras.
I did have the front brakes done at 20K and the guys asked me if I do a lot of towing because they thought it was a bit early.
Great vehicle - would rec a rear locker if doing much beach because they are heavy.

Thanks guys. It does a bit towing. I have not seen it yet and it will be interesting to see just how thirsty they are.

Had one two years done about 120 000k's Brilliant engine and fuel economy not bad at all for size don't know where those above figures came from but worst I have got out of it was 20l /100km and that was towing two horses at over the speed limit. Seriously flogging it. Best is around 13l per 100 km Average around 14 -1 5 but that mainly country running. As someone said above it does use brake pads and I have had to replace rear shocks, but I live on a badly maintained gravel road and have had a lot of weight on the back.
Couldn't recommend a vehicle more....though filling up those tanks still hurts no matter how good the economy is.
