The BR handwinch which failed brand new out of the box wouldn't hold a 60 series on about a 10 degree slope, we were demonstrating the use of a handwinch at the time so it wasn't being used in anger. The jaws were incapable of holding the cable.
The snatch blcok failed when the circlip slid of the central shaft and it literally fell apart, snatch strap failure was at the stitching.
As far as the failure of the hilift above the pins should never bend or break, they should not be the weak link as when they go so does the load.
I've used my 30 y/o Hilift to lift fully laden cruisers at the rear completely off the ground, even if the vehicle was overladen it is hard to see more than 1/2 the vehicle weight (prob around 2-2 1/2 tonne max) being applied to the jack.
Well within the genuine Hilift capability.
Having used a Hilift to winch as
well as lift the weak link is the operator, very hard to operate that handle when it is loaded.
I'd be taking it back and demanding a refund, threaten to contact cons affairs, workcover etc. A lot of those cheaper 'hilifts' have been recalled with and without the pretty paint job.
