I recently posted a question about this, but didnt get much back. However, I've just read in the Oct edition of 4x4 Australia, page 37, that "Prado will be updated with the Hilux's common rail 3.0ltr diesel next year." Will look forward to that offering. I have found the 120 series Prado, suits my needs brilliantly. Whilst the current 3.0ltr may not have the outputs of the new gen HP diesels, I'm
well aware of their proven reliability etc. I almost bought one but couldnt really wait the 3 months to get one (mid 2004). The 4.0ltr has been fantastic. No doubt, but I still would prefer the engine braking of diesels and the drive they offer in the bush, the extra range and the low rpm torque etc etc.
Having once hired a naturally aspirated 3.0ltr hilux and using it to explore Fraser for 2 weeks, I really came to appreciate how good these motors are.
Looking forward to 2006...

Good mate of
mine has a 90 series TD Prado with 90,000km on it and wants to upgrade to 120 series but has been holding off for new Diesel motor.
Spoke to him on Wednesday to find that he has done the deal on a new VX with the current TD motor. Best info from his dealer is that Toyota will be skipping putting the motor that is in the new 'Lux into the Prado and that it will be 2007 by the time the Prado gets the next generation common rail high tech turbo diesel.
His dealer may have told him this to get him to do the deal NOW but I doubt it as this guy also buys around 5 vehicles a year (mainly Hiluxes) for his business from the same dealer and has a pretty good relationship.
Personally I think this will hurt Toyota to wait this long. Reliable as the 1KZ-TE is (I love
mine) it is just not competitive with the powerplants in the Pajero and the Pathfinder that offer 120 odd Kw of power and much better fuel consumption.
A work collegue is also upgrading his 90 series TD and we are going in on Monday at lunch time to give a Pathy a good lookover and test drive. Will report on that next week.
Mind you after all this it would be just like Toyota (or most car companies) to suddenly whack out a press release to say that a new motor is available on such an such a date (say - next month!) after they have been saying there is nothing on the horizon. Think of the effects that it has on current stock when a big advance like that comes out.
Anyway - good luck with it. By the time I am ready to buy another one I am sure there will be a new diesel out (maybe about 2010).
Cheers
Muddy

We also buy quite a few vehicles from our local Toyota bloke and recently ordered a new commuter van. They said they would have one in about a week or two, that was over 3 months ago. Still cant give a ETA. My guess is he just wanted us to
sign for it. I prefer not to place too much faith in these guys.

Go to:
www.toyota.co.uk
You will see that the common rail 3.0lt turbo is available in the Prado there now, and has been for a while. The Prado is known as the Landcruiser over there and the 100 series is called the Amazon.
Drove a 'Lux turbo recently and was impressed by the performance. Seems a pity that we have to go without the upgraded motor in the Prado. But then it's not the first time that Toyota has baffled us.
Cheers, Rob.

yeah, I believe the Euro Prado's have had the CRD motor for a few years. We didnt get it due to the difference in sulphur levels in our diesel??? I cant say I know much about it, just vaguely what I have heard, but It would be nice to see the Prado on even terms in the powerplant dept with the others.
