Check out this site
http://www.safari4x4.com.au/dtronic/dtronic.htm
Mate has one in his Nissan 3.00, reckons it makes a big difference to power. No real improvement in fuel economy as far as I know. Probably depends on how you drive it.

Hi Chris,
As per the website reference, Dtronic is an add-on electronic control device to improve the performance of electronically-controlled turbo-diesel engines. I think you 2002 Rodeo might be too early to be able to use one. The Safair site lists Rodeos from 1/2003 as applicable.
These add-on device work by intercepting and modifying the signals from the standard engine ECU (Electronic Control Unit) to the injection pump. Simple ones just extend the injection period (and hence injected fuel quantity) under just about all operating conditions (not ideal) while the better units (which Dtronics seems to be) adjust both injection quantity and timing under a variety of operation conditions.
In my humble opinion, any turbo-diesel modified from factory standard (either by 'tuning' of a mechancial pump or adding a Dtronic or similar to an electronic pump) should have have an EGT (Exhaust Gas Temperature) gauge fitted (also called a Pyrometer in heavy truck parlance). This is the only way to have a 'window' into the actual operating conditions in your engine. [Yes, I do sell them but if you don't like
mine get some other brand - but do get one.]
If, as suggested, your '02 Rodeo TD has a mechanical injection pump, you still have scope to improve performance. Most factory-standard turbo-diesels have quite abit of scope to have the fuelling increased across much or the operating range by careful adjustment of the manifold pressure compensator and/or maximum delivery screw. But only after confirming that the engine and fuel system is in tip-top order and after fitting an EGT gauge, IMHO.

The very last of the 2002 Rodeos have the 3.0l td which I think is the same as the current model that can take a dtronic.

You don't say if petrol or diesel. I saw an add in the 4x4 Australia magazine a while back for one of these for a Rodeo. It was for the 3.2 V6 petrol model.
However best bet ould be just to call a supplier. ARB should be able to help out as they sell other Safari stuff.
