Gents,

I've just returned from an aborted trip arounbd "Oz". We got bored going from one van park to another. Too many signs saying "Ya can't do this and ya can't do that", "No camping", "No fires" etc, etc, etc. And the fishing was non-existent! So we've decided to back out prospecting here in W.A.

I'm selling the 18 foot van and going back to my camper trailer - can't get the big van in most of the places that I prospect. BUT - I need to put a new top on the camper trailer.

It's one of those old flip over tent, Cub Campomatic doofers & it's been beefed up for 4WD work. I've had it a long time and the little devil of a thing will go ANYWHERE.

BUT - I need to put a new top on it. This is the bit that flips over to the ground and then acts as the floor of the camper. I put a new top on it about 7 years ago, but at the time I couldn't get a one piece material that measures 1700mm by 2300mm. I had to to join 2 pieces of marine ply with an aluminium "H" section. This is now starting to detiorate and sag in the middle.

Does anyone know where I can get a one piece material of the above dimensions - at least 10mm thick. I don't wanna piece it again as it's not real good for carrying stuff on top. I'll take any suggestion from plywood to titanium! Any space age stuff that anyone knows of??

Thanks,

Bilbo

What if you use 2 pieces, use the H section to keep it all squared up and then glass the lot to create a good solid finish. Not what you asked for but I thought it worth a mention.

Blue,

Thanks, mate, but that's how it's set up at present. It's not strong enough.

Thanks,

Bilbo

No worries Bilbo, thought the galss may add the strength you need, of course probably an expensive way to find out it may not work...

How about moulding it in fibreglass?

Just go to a boatbuilder, as they have the expertise required, & get 2 sheets spliced together, an epoxy jointed splice of at least 5:1 will be plenty strong enough for your requirements. If you are in Victoria I may be able to steer you in the right direction, as I am in the Marine industry.
