Hi all,
have major issues with front tailshaft out of a 4 speed 60 series 82 model cruiser. It is one of those double "double" jointed varieties (2 x Uni's ) on one end.
I have taken said shaft out, changed gearboxes and now, after shaft being cleaned and obviously put together wrong, vibrates like anything.
Question, which end goes to where and how do you reallign these buggers properly.
Any help greatly appreciated

It's a double cardan joint, the Disco II has them as
well, i'd sugest you go to Outerlimits or LCOOL they have tech sections that are specific to your Cruiser.

I think you can buy a shaft to do away with the double cardan joint on earlier cruisers.???

Gordy, Redback is correct. The joint is called a double Cardan joint and is fitted to all '85 Hi Luxes (I had one). Normally the yoke at one end of a driveshaft is to be located at 90 degrees to the yoke at the other end. This is the case in most tailshafts but not all eg Lexus. Other things to look for are:- slop in the slip joint, non-obvious bend in shaft, seized universal bearing (the most common reason), loose pinion bearings, loose flange at pinion and/or TF case, broken gearbox mount. Try taking it out and going for a drive and see what difference it makes. Go to a car yard or shopping centre, find a HiLux and get under it and have a squiz. Hope this helps.

Make sure all grease nipples are in a straight line.
Double Cardan joint goes at the transfer case end.
Normally make the flanges so alignment is the same - just check for any marks or scatches where someone has done this in the past.
Cheers
