Just back from 2 months in the Kimberleys and all the dirt fun roads with a tag along group , mainly camper trailers and tents.
Worst tyres on the trip, Coopers, [sorry boys] pressures to suit conditions and the stuffed tyre rate was 3 times the BFG and others. Shocks, a certain European
up market shock starting with B managed to disintergrate big time on 100 series
Landcruisers. Lots of air freighting from the East Coast to Kununurra and Broome .
The OME,s handled it well even with 2 ton of Trakmaster on the back.
Never seen a shock changed using Plastic ties in the bush, most impressive.
All in all 5000ks on some tough roads , but fun.

As I understand it the shocks on the 100 Series are very tight to get in and the cable ties are used to compress the shock and fit it in. Could be wrong as this was my first Outback run, hence the Tag along group, we all have to start sometime. Had a totaled Pajero at the same time on the Mitchell Plateau road so that was getting all the attention. The boys became very efficient at replacing shocks though. Dont know what the others were running, mixture of originals and aftermarket, was more than happy with my OME

Mike,
Just wondering which shocks did work on the front of the 100 series. I have stuffed a set of TJM Cell X9's which were replaced with XGS's under warranty. Given the cruisers front shocks are so short and work so hard with the ifs it would be good to get feedback on what does work.

Cheers
Stuart

Hi , go OME every time, made in Australia and tested in Australia we have used them in our group on five major outback trips now [4 vehicles] without any failures. If you look closely at what is stamped into the body of your XGS shocks you will probably see COFAP made in Mexico They are actually budget shockies with a fancy label attached.

Go the ome, have had on the vehicle since 91. 89 model hilux yeah not as heavy as the cruisers and patrols but just about to replace after our next trip in 2 weeks time. Bushes are still ok but the shocks I noticed on last trip seem to be a bit floaty. And yes I'll be fitting the ome again without a doubt. might be a bit dearer but have proven themselves to me. 14 years can't complain about that and therv'e done some rough corragated and 2 full trips round oz. As billowaggi said tried and tested. Have a Great Day Vitara

My OME's are beaut . If you check the USA websites for serious off-roading you will find that OME shocks are by far the most recommended for upgrades . Given how parochial septics are about their engineering , this is high praise .

I don't hear any Koni owners getting their 2 bits in, so I will.
320,000ks and tested without fault then fitted to my mates Troopy, then trip down the Canning.
Always had Koni and always will.
So they cost a bit more, but what 's the cost incurred when you have a failure.
OME are very good too.
