I CURRENTLY RUN BFG's 265/75 AT ON MY PATROL. I AM CONSTANTLY TOLD THAT THE 40PSI I RUN IN BOTH FRONT AND REAR TYRES TOO HIGH.
I HAVE HAD A PAJERO, FORD EXPLORER AND NOW THE GU PATROL, AND HAVE FOUND WITH MOST TYRES 40 PSI WORKS
WELL, ALBEIT A LITTLE ROUGH WITH NO LOAD. TYTRE WEAR IS PERFECT. ANY FEEDBACK PBS127

pbs127,
You pretty much answered your own question. If your pressures give you good tyre wear (within manufacturers specs) then you are on to a good thing and stick to it.
For arguement sake I agree with the pressures you run as that is similar to my own preference, but I can go a tad higher when I really load up. 45psi not uncommon in my rig. Dueler A/T's averaging 70000km a tyre. The newer the tyre the less km I'm getting lately, maybe $hit rubber these days ?? Am due for 2 more soon not sure if I'll go Duelers again or not.
Regards Trevor.

They say it is often safer on the road than in the playground.

I beg to differ here. I have 275/70s on my 3.0lTdi GU and use about 34 front 38 rear. Then lower on gravel and dirt. Lower still on sand. Have done close to 100k on first set.
I think 40+ is just too forma ride round town and far too high where there are stones. Puncture waiting to happen.

Peter,
I got 110km out of my first set as
well but haven't nearly got close to that since.
As I said if it works for you, stick to it. I don't do much trail work therefore higher pressures OK for my circumstance.
Regards Trevor.

Peter, thanks for the reply. I should have been a little clearer with my question.
I do about 1600k a week on the bitumen and about 100k on gravel roads. If Ii am doing a long trip on gravel I generally drop 10 psi

I can't figure out why that posted twice - thought I'd fixed the typos.
I think as a general rule you will get a higher mileage with the higher pressures but I thought the ride and steering was affected.

'I generally drop 10 psi '
40-10=30
Looks a little on the high side by a few psi.

At the opposite end of the scale, I ran my first BFGs at the pressures recommended by Nissan, and found that they were wearing significantly on the outsides; ie, underinflated. I now run about 33 in the front, 38-40 in the back and get good wear.
And I drop the pressures about 5psi on the gravel, and have had no failures (yet).
