Dear Chris,
Thank-you for your email regarding Repco’s Sizzling Sound Sellout.
As you know, the Sizzling Sound Sellout featured great prices - the response by customers has been overwhelming and unfortunately we sold out of a number of items extremely quickly.
If you would like to send us your mailing address by return email we will provide you with a written response as soon as we can.
I apologise for any inconvenience, and thank-you for shopping at Repco.
Yours sincerely

dejavu.... I wonder why they think sending an automated reply by email and then another by post will change our perspective?

Ben - exactly. Here's my response back:
----------------------------------------------------------
Wayne
I am on your mailing list - otherwise I would not have recieved the catalog. If I'm on your mailing list - I'm sorry, but you already have my address.
I requested to be striken from your mailing list, but your response here looks like a form letter sent out to the hundreds who no-doubt complained about your bait advertising methods - again I feel like Repco cares about it's customers - not.... You would otherwise have responded to my electronically-lodged complaint directly by email.
If you still cannot find my name of your database please let me know. I'll supply my street address at that stage.
Please be aware that the ACCC has asked me to forward any response you may be sending to me straight to them. They have shown to be more than interested in your marketing methods.
Thanks you
Chris XXXXXXXX

I like that personal touch at the end.
Im sure the computer that crunches your email will get warm fuzzies.
There was mention on another thread of a gift voucher being sent out.... I can hope.
It seems odd that Wayne the retail manager uses the email address ADalidakis@repco.com.au.

ADalidakis: "
Well ladies and gentlemen we did receive a number of posted responses to our last sale by email, but on requests for those peoples mailing address so that we could mail an official response drew very little response. I suggest we tell the ACCC that our complainants were clearly not too serious and I am happy to report that we saved $4836.50 in postage and issued only 14 $5 vouchers to shut up the few who did send an address."

I GOT A PHONE CALL! No email for me.. I got PERSONAL rejection and lies.
Repco: sorry we sold out of them.
me: can you tell me which stores had them?
Repco: no
me: I called 9 different stores, and friends in other states did the same none had any please
Repco: ummmmmm
me: did you really have them at all? Cause me and 50,000 others dont, and I know some are taking this way further..
Repco: yes sir we assure you
me: can you tell me where? even a state would do, I'll call the stores myself.
Repco: no, I cant do that..
things go quiet.....
Repco: anyway we offer you a $100 gift voucher, or the portable DVD player on the front of catalog for $99.00
me: I'll wait until you can get me in one of the $1200.00 ones please,
Repco" We cant do that
Me: Why im in no hurry, and Id rather save $1100 than a bleep y $100 voucher, how about you give me $500 in vouchers, your still in front, and Im still behind..
Repco: no sir we cant do that.
I took the portable DVD player, now to wait another bleep in phone call

Hey Chris,
Same here mate, asked questions in relation to the sale. Got NO reply.
Called my local repco
shop and asked how all these players sold so fast, they told me ..
"they all went through backorders" I asked them if you knew how many were going to be sold through backorders then why didnt you order more for the public.
They told me they were allotted only so many and could not get any more in that store.
I asked to give me a list of who ordered them and they refused.
Sounds to me like someone in the know should contact a talk back radio station to investigate on the publics behalf. This is nothing short of a rip off. And i want one ...NOW !!!!! 99 buck, ya cant go wrong.
Anyone out there have any contact with ALan jones or Ray Hadley ? maybe even John Laws. This needs to be addressed. We are just being used by these people.
Ange.

If they all went on backorders, then clearly they did not have any stock. Otherwise their stock system would have shown none available as they would have all been allocated prior to the sale date for the pre-existing back orders. So they have advertised a sale price on something they have no stock for! They surely must have known this. I work in marketing and organising stuff like this is part of my job. Clearly either dodgy practices or very very bad management.

I hope this blows up in their face, I definitely would have grabbed a couple of portable DVD players at that price...even if they only had 1 or 2 per store it would have been nice to at least have a real chance to buy one, instead of this non existent stock.
In a blatant attempt to get people into the store they are now losing paying customers...
well at least one, I just bought everything to change every oil and filter in the GQ from a different store, I won't go back to Repco
Glenn
Ps where'd you send your complaint to?, I haven't heard back on

this is not meant to offend, but I have been watching this Repco episode for a while and......
c'mon people...so you didn't get something for next to nothing! When will this all end!!!! Yes, everyone has a right to be upset - Repco stuffed up in a big way and were misleading. Isn't the best course of action to just not buy anything from them in the future??? Why waste your time chasing them - seems that many now see this as an opportunity to get something else cheaper from them via discounts or vouchers.
....and here I was thinking that all those upset potential customers would never
shop there again.....but seems most will be happy to rush down there with their vouchers or discounts now. Gee, sort of asks the question - what was the real motivation behind your complaints???...were you really upset over the catalogue or just saw it as an opportunity????
Surely this Repco 'bait advertising' episode isn't worth the amount of time and effort that people are putting in???? IMHO just get over it....you didn't get something for nothing....that's the real world!

repco didnt stuff up...they deliberatley misled the public!...they lied to get poeple into their stores to buy alternatives at inflated profits no doubt or to get rid of obsolete or old stock etc etc
Repco deserve to be sued or prosecuted by the authorities...
hey if you complain to them about their lies and they dont want it to become public....they may
well just offer incentives not to have matters taken further......sounds like they know what they did eh!!! and are willing to PAY-OFF those that complain to ensure they are not seen as a bleep bleeping dishonest retailer

Agreed, they did mislead and it appears they are willing to pay off those that complained.
What position does that leave those that complained in??? Do they accept the cash / discounts and continue to
shop at Repco or do they stand by their disgruntled position and not go into another repco store??? To me it would seems the level of conviction in these complaints has a $$ level on it ;-)
Just seems to me that no-one is in a worse off position than prior to this damn catalogue! Why waste time in pursuing them - surely there are better things to be doing??? IMHO just don't
shop there again - this is the only way to make a statement about the situation that effects Repco.

thats why they pay em off...so they'll go back and
shop at Repco..
yes it would be better if all those that now the story do not ever
shop at repco again...but will it matter...most likely not...we are but a few....jump up down and let them we aint happy jans......they'll get the message in the end.....if you dont complain they will do it again!

Surely this Repco 'bait advertising' episode isn't worth the amount of time and effort that people are putting in????
if it came down to somethign I wasnt interested in buying, that I could have saved $1100 on, I wouldnt be bothered. No im not really stupid enough to have believed that I could have saved $1100 on something like that, but they told me on the phone day 1 that my name was down for one. now the bimbo on the phone may have as I expect no idea in general, let alone that the company that she worked for was full of crap, and actually didnt have any in the first place.
It *MAY* make them think about not doing it in the future, but I also believe in the tooth fairy.
... also think of the free advertising that Repco got out of this.. Bad as it maybe, I bet everyone in this thread will
shop there again when the need arises for a part they need on a sunday.
Did anyone notice todaytonight/aca didnt even get a 1/2 a woody over this?

I also got the phone call after complaining on their website.
I was offered, and accepted, one of the $99 ones from the front page.
Same offer as Truckie got - either the DVD player or $100 voucher.
To me it looks like they are trying to do the right thing by their customers after making a monumental stuff up (but I can say that coz Im getting a DVD player)
