Having read the Simpson trek notes I note that there is no fuel rquirements listed for petrol V8's. Would the figures for the larger 6's (Patrols etc) be a good guide? I have a 3.9 Discovery.
thanks in advance

they say you need 190 ltrs diesel for a 4 cylinder i did it at easater with only 65 ltrs from
birdsville to mt dare so the time of year & driving style will also have a lot to do with it but a large 6 would be a close guide

Hey stoned when we crossed the Simpson we had a V8 Rangie with us, he used about 100ltrs for the crossing to Dalhousie.
He had a full
tank (90ltr) + 10 10ltr jerries on the roof, at our second
camp he put 5 of those jerries in the car and when we got to Dalhousie still had enough to get to
Oodnadatta with out using the other 5 jerries of fuel.

Used 140 litres crossing the French line. 4500 80 series towing a camper trailer & filled up at Mt Dare. Right foot has a lot to do with as
well as tyre pressures.

Thanks for all the replies guys. It certainly is 'do'able' then. I'll have another look for the V8 figures.
