I am thinking of getting some diff lockers fitted. I like the ease of Auto ones (and the cost difference between ARB air lockers for instance). Can I please have some advise of what brand would be best?
please stay on topic and only legitimate advice would be appreciated.
Cheers

i guess like a lot of things it is nice to have control - to know that when it is needed you have engaged it - at the same time when it is not needed it is not engaged - auto lockers are good but you will know they are there when in the carpark or driving to and from your places of 4wd enjoyment - an airlocker (and it doesn't matter which brand) is at your control - and you get an air compressor for free (sort of) - cost is all relative and is in proportion to the amount of diff locking you actually need...............and this is the biggie..............do you need a diff lock or just want one - if the latter then it doesn't matter which type........if however you are really going to need one then go with an airlocker. rgds
Slow down and relax......

Maverick, have you driven an auto locker? You wont notice any difference in a car park or when driving to your fave 4wd spot. because the thing isn't engaged.(unless of course you drive around carparks in 4WD). You will only notice a difference when in 4WD with your hubs locked. You will also notice a difference if you need to turn while the autolocker is on (in 4wd with hubs locked) You can turn using an auto locker while you have to keep switching an airlocker on and off as they don't like corners. If you are driving over things like sand dunes, especially somewhere like the Simpson where there are lots of turns on top of dunes, then I think an auto locker is much better. If you see yourself wading though straight ahead slippery stuff then an airlocker is probably better.
But, and its a big but, I don't think auto lockers should be used with any full time 4WD vehicle.

944runner,
I have a GQ with a "lokka" auto locker in the front diff. It is fantastic! A little worse on the turning circle when in 4wd but bugger all. Best thing is you don't have to worry about engaging anything. Put the hubs out when you're back on the tar and it's back to normal

I must agree with Muzza... It is dead simple...
ARB compressors when they get a little older start blowing fuses and blowing the main tank o'ring out the back... Arb compressors could'nt blow a feather over at point blank range....And they will end up being the weak link in your air locker..
So what i am saying is that if you get a Lokka style diff lock with a portable compressor like a Max Air, then for $1150 you have a great setup and able to pump up 4tyres to the arb's 1½... Compared to around $1800 for the arb setup.....
Sorta like buying a 100 series over a GU Patrol when at the end of the day that extra 20 grand could have gone into something smart...

OK I have done a little research and was wondering if these are different,
Powertrax Lock Right (Sold by TJM) and Lokka Lock Right (sold by 4WD systems)?
If so what is the difference and wich one do you think is better?

"I BELIEVE" that the Powertrax is a true TJM product and several years ago 4wd Systems copied it and called it Lokka.....
The copy is cheaper and is of equal quality.....
Again i say "I BELIEVE"...

I have a detroit in the rear of my 60 toyota.
I like it because you dont need to think will I use or wont I use it.
There is no need for a compreser that could fail or lines to fall of.
Yes i have seen both of these things happen on more than one occasion.

All the best

ARB Air lockers YOU control..

Others you dont, and can be a PITA on gravel roads..

pay the extra, in the long run, you will be happier.
