Thanks Austravel, I noticed the new semi synthetic oil last time I was at the Nissan Parts dept, and I think I'll give it a go next oil change. I have been using Nissan Diesel Oil (15W-40 CF 4, as recommended in the manual) for the past 2 years, change oil & filter every 5000 k's.

I get (got) my D22 serviced at Lennock. They use FMX oil, not their own. Same viscosity though. Curious?
Don't suppose there's a bulletin on the correct volume of oil?
regards
Russell

Austravel,
The only thing with this is if you go on an extended trip and you buy a "fancy oil" you have to carry the "fancy oil" with you. I run a full synthetic and I had a problem with the filler cap (which I won't go into) after an oil change, I was so lucky I had five litres of the oil in the camper trailer when I noticed the problem on the back window of the vehicle. I asked at a country servo if they had any of this oil and they looked at me like I came from the planet Zod. Something to bear in mind when using synthetics.

Hi Martyn

In the scheme of things would it really matter what type of oil you put in the truck, just as long as it got you home? Would it make such a big difference in wear and tear between pumped oil or synthetic oil.

I doubt it, but you tell me :o)

Willem,
If it was a case of get you home you are right of course anything will do, as long as it's oil of course. When you start mixing brands and also mineral oils and synthetics strange things can happen, the oil can congeal, it can laminate etc so the less stressful way of doing things is to take some oil with you, that was the point I was trying to make. The base oil is the same no matter what brand you buy oil is oil is oil it's the additives once it the oil is blended after its been processed from crude to oil that matter. Some additives don't mix.
My experiences and opinions of course. By the way how are you and hows the new bus going?
