I recently purchased a automatic turbo timer (still in transit). I wanted to fit it to a Nissan Parol GU II, but hadn;t considered the Nissan Anti-Theft System NATS. IS there any way I can make this thing work with the key out of the ignition?

Is yours the "plug and play" type, or did it require cutting/splicing/connecting wires 'n stuff ?

I actually bought the Baby Timer like you described from repco for 175 bucks and it failed to deliver what it promised,,, so i returned it and bought a 100 dollar cheapy which has only 1 - 3 and 5 min intervals and it works fine...
And yes i had to find the wires and splice them....
Only two wires were needed with the cheapy (ign 12v and off 12v) where as the baby timer required an extra (acc 12v and a handbrake sensor).....

Hi we also have the GU4 3 litre and had turbo timer fitted. As previous post anti theft still works once key out. timer runs until shut down. Ours was fitted by Opposite Lock. No problems, michele

I personally think its just on more thing to go wrong, Most vehicles have, at least a 2 year warranty and if the lack of a Turbo timer was going to damage the engine in that period, i'm sure the manufacturers would fit one. michael

There is no doubt that allowing the turbo to spin down by idling is guaranteed to improve turbo life. In fact it is written in the vehicle owners manual under Turbo Charger System p4-4 in BOLD.

"To ensure prolonged life and performance of the turbo charger, it is essential to comply with the following procedure-

If the engine has been operating at high rpm for an extended period of time, let it idle for a few minutes prior to shutdown"

You can argue you don't need a timer to do this, but it is a bit inconvenient to do it without a timer.

More to go wrong? Yep along with dual battery systems, mud tyres, bullbars, spotlights, etc etc.

Cheers
David

Pretty sure it is illegal in all states, to leave your car running unattended.
Dumb stuid law really but I see why it is there. Sometimes I just wish the world would go back to a time when people took responsibility for their actions and this stuff didn't need legislation. :-)

As I understand, and it came from an Australian Federal Policeman (the guy next door), in all states but the ACT the driver is not to move more than 3 mtrs from a vehicle with the engine running. This means that it is not illegal to have a TT, it's illegal to leave the vehicle unattended with the engine running. He told me of how NSW cops hang out in unmarked cars at Maccas and catch the young guys with their 'ricers'. 3 mtrs is apparently the definition of unattended, you wont find this in black and smudge as it is guidence not legislation to the police.

In the ACT the Turbo Timer must be connected to the hand brake, electrically. If the brake is not on the TT wont work. If the brake is released whist the TT is counting down the TT switches off the engine immediately. It is illegal in the ACT to move more than 3 mtrs away for a vehicle with the engine running if the vehicle is not fitted with a TT.

Trust this info helps.
