Anyone know of any companies in
Melbourne that can supply and fit a cruise control to our 78 Series Troopy diesel, non-turbo. We want one fitted at the end of the month to make our trip back to
Brisbane easier as I will still be recovering from my busted right leg - but will be on a stick so I am allowed to drive.

Steve,
Seems like you've not been overwhelmed with responses as yet. I have a Series 80 diesel with an aftermarket cruise control which was fitted at the time of purchase but I don't have access to the details (brand name etc) at this moment. I find the cruise control of limited use in hilly areas being a diesel. The motor dies going up hills and as the cruise control tries to compensate for the loss of speed it puts the accelerator flat to the floor which of course means belching black smoke, increase in fuel consumption but no maintenance of a constant speed. Of course the next step is to change gears which cuts out the cruise controls. Having said that I would not go without out it as on the flat its great. I can remember the last time I crossed the Nullabor I swore I would do it again without cruise control. Ofcourse I havent crossed it sionce I've had cruise control, go figure.
Try the web site below, they have a few locations in Victoria from a quick look I had.

good luck

I know what you mean about no power but most of the driving with the cruise control will be on the flat or near flat. Fortunately most of where we go in OZ has not many hills. I have had cruise control on a manula car before and know the pitfalls.
Thanks for the web site, I will make some calls on Monday.

I have the autoron (sp?) fitted to my car. Apart from the actual quality of the fitting (by a 'specialist' - not the
shop that sold it) ist good, but at $900 its expensive (with 3 individual pre set speeds).
My car is a drive by wire, not cable operated accelerator like the 1HZ engine tho.
There are cheaper vacuum operated units on the market to suit cable operated engines (had one on 1990 magna). These are/where aval from the likes of Bunnings, Repco, Bursons, Kmart and some aut shops. Think $199 to $499

I have arranged to get an Autron fitted Thursday next week. Hope the Troopy goes as it has been in storage since March but has a trickle charger on the battery.
Because of my leg and lack of
tools in
Melbourne, I am having to bite the bullet and get it professionally installed rather than doing it myself.
We have been intending to get cruise control fitted since we bought the Troopy 3 years ago and this is just the excuse we need.
Thanks for the replies
