Recent 1st off road (mild corrugate) with camper trailer with new 100 TD 05 crusier and noticed RHS knock (loud) upon hitting corrugations. Rear of car loaded so front end is slightly unloaded. At first I thought this was the ABS system, but thought it seemed as if the clunk came from the shock rebounding to full open. Is it possible that the shock is too short??....I'm sure someone knows about this. Any info would be appreciated

Get it checked quickly as the 100 LC IFS has a problem with the front end.
Simple fix costing about $40 per side.
Go to
WWW.outerlimits4x4.com

See their LC section

Dodger,
Had a look at that site which was in absolute black-out.

You need a miner's light and a magnifying glass.

Any way of improving the screen to read it?

Thanks Dodger, it is a 'dark' site. My teenage game-playing son loves that sort of page colouring - but then he exists in a dark cave.

It was strange that IFS problems were not occuring in the USA (according to US fourby sites).

They were asking why US Cruisers would be different to Oz ones?

Speculation in the States is that some Oz drivers could overload front end (steel bullbar, extra batteries etc) and flog the vehicles while exceeding GVM.

Recommendation was that front spring should be beefed up in any vehicle that is modified to carry big loads. Sounds reasonable.

yes the shock absorbers on the 100's fully open... unfortunately the shocker is the only thing stopping the wheel falling off as has been seen in a few photos here and there of what happens when the shockie or shockie mount lets go on these.. think it cost nearly 12000 to repair!!!

You can get aftermarket shocks for them, but as with most independant front ends, you will find they will be the same length, just stronger.

Might be something you have to bear..

As for the fix it kit that was mentioned above, this kit i believe will not stop this noise, instead it is a strengthening kit for where the suspension cracks at the end of the torsion bar.. this kit will strengthen this slightly and if it does still crack will help prevent it completely breaking.

Got a friend that had one and he eventually had enough of the noises (he had all the strengthening and OME LTR shocks), that he eventually sold it and bought a F250..

sorry couldn't be any more help for you.

cheers

Hi
I wouldnt change anything that will void your warrenty...ive heard of that 12000 dollar failure too, and it was in the desert with OME suspension....cost a couple of grand to get it back to a repairer, and both Toyota and OME are pointing the finger at eachother.

Thanks for reply Ando,

.....if this is common knowledge, which it sounds like it is.....has anyone had a response from Toyota to this design flaw???? Reason is, I am going to talk to them asap, but wanted to be armed with the ammo before hand.....the other one is, does the 100 have bottom out rubbers for the top control arm, which could stop the suspension dropping beyond the shock length...for gods sake....this is 2005, could it be that hard????

WR450F,

In regards to your previous follow-up, you raise good points which a number of people have raised before and i believe with Toyota... As far as i know, Toyota have not made any plans to correct it, most of time blaming styles of driving or aftermarket equipment.

As for the stoppers to prevent it dropping down, to my knowledge, no they don't!! Which is strange really considering all other types of IFS has them and dont have these problems.... can't see why it wouldn't be an easy and inexpensive (in the scheme of things) fix. But, this problem is getting rather long in the tooth now, and you would think that if they were going to fix it, they would have!

Catch ya.
