we are planning a trip out west in october. anyone beed down the wilcannia/
menindee road recently ? appreciate update on conditions after recent rains.

If you're planning to go in October any comment based on current conditions now will be useless. The tracks out there can change from day to day after rain, becoming impassable after six or seven hours of heavy rain and drying out again in a day or two of strong sun and wind.
Mostly they're okay because it doesn't rain that much there :-)
