ive just bought a 40thanniversy manual diesel has anybody got any thoughts/coments about the viscos gearbox it seems to preform resonalby
well in soft sand but box dose smell hot after heavy going when in high range also box is very notchy when cold what sort of gbox oil should i use

Forget about the viscous part, it is only in there to help the ABS brake each wheel independantly. Only ABS cruisers get one. If you lift a front wheel in high range you will go nowhere just like if you had a full time with no viscous... there is a way to fix both problems....get a difflock switch that comes in your model but without ABS and install it in the dash...plug the wires in and you can then select locked high range, but the down side (if it can be called that) is you loose ABS whilst it is locked.(good for fast dirt roads)
Put some Castrol VMXM oil in your 5 speed, and it will shift better.
