G'Day all,
Anyone have any info on where I could get my hands on a small 12v winch. This would have to be a miniture version of a normal 4by unit, with not as much required pulling power. I'm thinking about putting one on the front of my quad. I got it stuck in a situation recently that having a winch would have got me out of, and saved me a long walk back to the 4wd. It may also be handy for other uses.
Any thoughts?
Regards,
Capt.

G'Day signman,
Thanks for your responce. I thought of a boat winch, but because it would need to be mounted up front, in between the frame members, it would need to be of a similar configuration/design as a normal 4by winch. The boat
winches ( manual or electric ) Supercheap have are too bulky. I need to have everthing flush mounted up front as I sometimes use the quad for chasing animals ( pig shooting ) and things can get a bit bent up front if there not behind the bash bars.
Regards,
Capt.

Capt,
Not an mounted winch, but what about the cheap hand pullers you see in supercrap for about $25. May be able to strap it onto the rack and only take it off when you need it. I used one years ago to pull a trailer out from under a fallen tree.

G'day Capt.
I recently fitted a hand winch to my ATV for my desert photogry trip. You can see a photo at ATV Hand Winch
This winch is overkill, powerful enough to pull a small car out of a bog, but I had it in the shed and was a bit strapped for cash for buying a smaller boat winch or an electric ATV winch.
I have 28 meters of cable on my winch. The cable is also overkill for the ATV but consistant with the power of the winch. If you get a lighter, pressed steel boat winch with lighter cable, you'll get more cable on the winch drum.
When I did my reserch I found various brands of electric, purpose made ATV winch available. The ExploreOz
shop or one of their advertizers may even get you one in.
I'd be interested to hear more about your ATV adventures. We're a minority here, you know.
Regards,
Laurie.
