Hi All
Just got my GPS antenna, how do i run the cable from dash to say the roof rack, not keen on slaming door on the cable.
also attaching to rack would a heavy duty doubled sided tape do the job?
any suggestions welcome.
80 series LC
Thanks'
steve.

If you have a
snorkel, this may help. If not, I guess it wont.
Mine is mounted on top of
snorkel, then runs down side of
snorkel, secured with cable ties and the odd dob of silicone.
Mine comes through the door jam without trouble. I have heard that some people run theirs inside the
snorkel, then drill a small hole outlet once inside the engine bay close to wing wall, feed cable back out and through firewall to wherever you want it, being careful of course to avoid hot things. Seal around all drilled holes with silicone.

Slamming the door on the cable isn't the problem!
Causing a kink in the cable is!
How long is the cable?
Can you run it via the firewall(should be an access grommet in there somewhere??)
up along the
snorkel(??)
I used to run
mine via the door.
But then again I had a '79 Rangie....not what One would call efficient door seals! But they were perfect for running cables from inside the car, to the outside! :))
Most important with the tiny little GPS ant coax, is not to crimp/kink/bend/fold.
Is your antenna powered?
Does it have a magnetic base?
I used blue tack to secure it to the roof!
(actually it was the yellow version(UHU), the real blu tack was useless)

"Is your antenna powered?

As a rule external GPS antenna's are amplified, powered via the coax cable. This is why the coax length does not matter (within reason).
I drilled a hole above the door and fitted a grommet into the body, cable runs inside A pillar down to an exit at the dash. The troopy is easy for fitting things like that, not having too much fancy trim to get in the way.
I did not like the idea of having to watch the cable constantly in case it came loose if it were passing through the door seal.
The GPS antenna mounts onto a small alu bracket, attached to the roof rack. The coax runs in the gutter for a short distance, held there by globs of 'sikaflex' - wonderful stuff, btw.

Mine (reradiating antenna) is mounted on the bull bar (spare antenna tab) - cable runs inside left guard, then kind of up the inside of the body between the guard and door jam - then through the door and across to the GPS under the dash-mat...
Ultimately I'm saying
mine is closed in the door and has been so for 18 months now - no problems...
