Ok guys,
what oil are you using for your GQ transfer case? Interested to see the feedback here.

Hi Ange!
I use Castrol Syntrans 75w85. It has racing
heritage (Mitsu Evo's and Jaguar XJ220), so it has some development behind it. Apart from that, it smells nice.

My old 88 Maverick aka GQ specified 75/80 multigear oil and I ran that for its whole life, but I note that my GU now uses Dexron III transmision fluid for the transfer case, tho multigear can still be used. (maybe a change in design?). Anyway, I'd stick with the former.
cheers, Gerry

I'm using Dexron II in my '92 Mav -- (4.2 Diesel)
I was told by a Nissan mechanic of many years, any series 2 GQ or Maverick - built after July '92 would be better to use the Dexron II in the transfer
I have been using it for some years - about 100,000 plus and change it every 20,000. It still comes out a redy colour and no whines or grinds from the transfer

Hi,
Haines Manual states all 4.2 both Petrol & Diesel manufactured AFTER Oct 1991 should use Dexron II/III.
Cheers,
Wayne

My mechanic told me that although 75w90 gearoil is sometimes specified as being applicable to my GU transfer case, atf is the better proposition. His reasoning being that gear oil is too thick to adequately lubricate the links in the chain drive to the front output shaft. If your GQ has a chain drive then it would stand to reason that atf would be better in it also.
