Hi,
Some chap on another forum reckons the Nissan oil is in fact magnatec...
In any case, I wouldn't worry too much about flushing. Oils are supposed to be compatible as far as topping up is concerned.

Cheers

OK here's a cut and paste of the bullitin
Magnatec meets the specs but is not Semi synthetic or so I believe.

Mobil has two oils that meet the spec and are semi synthetic "Synth S" and "super S"

Here follows the bulletin

NISSAN MOTOR CO. (AUSTRALIA) PTY. LTD. ABN. 54 004 663 156

Re: Revised Engine Oil Specification

Applied Model: Y61 & D22 Applied range: ZD30 Engines
Please be advised that the specification for the oil fill on the ZD30 has been revised. Engine
Oils that meet the specification listed below are the only oils that are permitted for use in the
ZD30 Engine.

Oil Specification: ACEA B3 or JASO DH-1

Nissan strongly recommend that a viscosity rating of 10W40 be used. For specific viscosity
relating to ambient temperature ranges please refer to the viscosity chart in the relevant
workshop manual.

Note: API CG-4 oils must never be used in the ZD30 engine.
To support the revision in oil specification, Nissan has developed a semi-synthetic 10W-40
engine oil that meets all the operational demands of this engine. The revision of the new oil
specification is retrospective and will apply to all ZD30 engines.
The oil will be available from Nissan Parts & Accessories in 5lt and 200lt quantities using the
following part numbers.
5lt - B3005-10W40PK
200lt - B3200-10W40PK

Hmmm

And why would they mark this information:
THIS INFORMATION IS CONFIDENTIAL TO NISSAN DEALERS ONLY

You would think they'd want their customers to know this too, if it is important. After all, they are the ones who OWN these things and probably want them to last!

amazing.

cheers

The important part of the Nissan notification is the change in viscosity to 10W40 from 15W40.
I guess this has something to do with preventing the piston failures that appear to be due to insufficient oil cooling/lubrication of the piston undersides.

I changed from 15W40 to 10W40 Magnatec in my ZD30 when I reeived the information from Nissan.

BTW the Nissan product is produced by Shell.

Hi All
We have a 2002 3 ltr.. Used Magnatec, for first 50,000 to run it in.
Now run Caltex Havoline Full Synthetic 10-50.
Checked with Nissan and Caltex first.. both said full Synth, is the best way to go.. Not a problem with warranty.
Change Oil/Filter every 10,000 Buy in 20 ltr drums from depot...
Not much difference in servicing costs.. and 10 time's the protection..
Win Win situation I think..
I changed the first load of synthetic after 2000k's just to flush... Not necessary they said. But I did it anyway....
Regards To All

Toohey,
I had similar feedback from Nissan Dealers at Ryde NSW for my 2004 GU 4.2. They state should use Nissan oil but on contacting Castrol they reckon their "Magnatec" meets nissans specifications.
It does apear to as it is rated SAE 10W-40, API SL/CF, ACEA A3/B3.

I have also heard that Castrol supplies this oil but then they do mix oils to suit.
