Has anyone been out on the track recently? Planning on doing it next week. Will the rain affect it?

Hi db,

Trip was excellent. took 3 days averaging around 90km p/day with plenty of stops to look at the sights. Most of the track is in gd condition (sand, gravel) but some really big muddy ruts. Took the advice of others and didn't use the chicken tracks - GOOD ADVICE !
If they got the rains of the last week it will still be muddy in sections. When in doubt - get out and check it saved us some grief.
The section from Broomehil to Hyden is boring aprt from the 1st 15km. There is a realy long muddy run at 6.5km in. One of our vehicles got stuck and had to be winched.

Hope you have fun out there. let me know how you go.

cheers
Mark

Not sure how much rain it got - we had some here but nothing that wont be totally dry in a day or 2. Not sure how scenic the trip will be the Southern part was extensivly burnt out less than a year ago

Hi Davo,
Thanks for the feedback. Some mud makes it fun. Lots of digging becomes a drag!!
cheers Mark.

See that there was an artical in the Saturday West a couple of weeks ago on drongos that churned the place up and CALM will be catching up with them.

I imagine it would be shocking.
Rain stays there for bloody ages!
Make sure theres another car with you and a snatch strap.
Theres only 2 longish mud patches, but a number of small (maybe 8m long) muddy sections. It hadnt rained for a 2 weeks when I went there at easter, but there was still water 30cm deep in parts. Stick to the tracks and you should be right though. Do NOT follow any of the bush-bashed bypasses for muddy sections- they are the worst choice of the two paths.
