To all the people who posted back good wishes & helpful suggestions to help with some of the problems referred to in my last post - Thank you.
Sorry , yes as was said by Richard, Glowplugs you definitely pushed the right button !!!!!!
We put to much time, effort and money into trying to do it right for me to be able to take such criticism lightly.

The fires might not have cooled down but I have ( LOL ) so sorry if I got a bit carried away in my reply, you just need all the facts before you apportion blame to the pastoralists for not doing enough break burns.

No offence was intended to anyone and yes I do know that 90 % of outback travellers are just nice, careful sensible people, so please don't think I was laying blame on all.

Trouble is all the problems listed do exist, more is the pity.
Cheers to you all
Anne

Anne,

No offence taken here, I think it was a great post as far as most of us do the right thing but just reminding us that not all do.

With this post in mind one of us might take more than a second look at a empty campsites fire as we drive past, notice it's not quite out, fix it and that could be a fire avoided. I know I certainly will.

Again best of luck with the fire and rain.

Sandy

Yes, if the only thing that comes out of all this is that we take more notice of our surroundings and do something to help avert further catastropes then this and Anne's other post have done good. Eventually the irresponsible idiot fringe may actually (here's hoping) take note and act accordingly. Anne, I sincerely hope it is not too long before the fire cools down - its a worry.
Happy camping,
Mike.

Anne,

Been watching the threads.
Suppose one day all of Oz will come under the one requirement that only gas be used for cooking, and fires banned. I pity the day. It is starting to happen in the east.
And knowing these type of people, they would still light a fire anyway as thier right. Travelling this country is not a right, but a privilege.

Thanks for the warning about fires, we can all get complacent so easily when travelling. But it doesn't help you in this case I am sorry to say.

Just back from there a couple of weeks ago and had not heard a word on the East
coast about the fires. To hear that your wonderful area is devastated like that makes me sick. Our tour group was at Drysdale and the King Edward River campground the week before and thought it was a magical place. To think of it now burnt out, I,m at loss for words
Thanks for the hospitality at Drysdale, great food and the burgers are to die for.
Has petrol topped $ 2. yet up there [$1.88 when we all went through] and did they get the Pajero our group lost out of there.
Again sorry to hear about it and hope the rains turn up soon.

Hi Michael,

So far have held it back to $1.90 but should really have gone up again some more when we got the last load as it went up quite a lot to us.
Yes daughter Lisa's tell me the vehicle went out ok although I have to admit I don't really recall. So much happens in such a short time here that it all starts to flow together by the end of the year.
So glad you liked the burgers, guess the difference is we do have real homemade meat patties in them, not factory paste garbage. A pity it can't any longer be our own beef (which is even tastier) this was how they started I used to make them for a treat just us who lived here, using of course back then our own meat.
We do buy the best quailty stuff from the butcher so hopefully that also ensures they are nice.
Yes, rain, rain & more rain - Soon !
cheers, Anne

Hi Anne, I was with a party of 11 vehicles at Drysdale in July. Best food I have had at ANY place in the land of Oz. (Do they brand 2 cattle at a time with carbon paper between them in WA) :-)) Please keep us informed as how things are going up your way fires, drought, rain etc.

Anne,

I was there in May/June leading a small convoy of three vehicles. I asked after you a couple of times but ran out of time....(a whole other story).

Love the place, we enjoyed ourselves immensly.

Sorry I missed you Dave, I did get to meet a few from ExpolrOz this year. Think you may have been the person I was told about and when I finally did come looking to say Hi, Joanna said you missed them, they said they would try on the way back down.
Then same thing happened to me again on the next attempt I was flat out and when I finally did appear Jo said 'they waited quite a while, but had to move on'
So again very sorry.
I had a quick look , yes you have taken some very good photos.
cheers, Anne

Hi Anne

Nothing to do with your post but just a few observations and memories of Drysdale - we were there in June.

Had fun watching guys ram the dozer into the tree behind the shop to knock it down. Kids thought it was great

Your daughter sounded fantastic on ABC radio a few Sundays back - congratulate her for us.

Burgers were great. Phone was awesome.

How did that guy who dropped a pallet on his shin get on - I had a look and it was healing pretty well but looked quite sore.

Saw you on the Malcolm Douglas doco in Melbourne just after we got back. No wonder they have to lock you away with good looks like that.

I reckon you have every right to be upset about the fires. No wonder stuff gets closed down.

All the best

Andrew

Hi Andrew,
That was son on the dozer, tree was totally dead and hanging over shed. Was very old, been there since before our time. White ants must have got it. Couldn't credit that it had been dead over a year but it took him almost 2 days to get it down safe and out. Was hard though working right beside the shed, he couldn't get the rippers right around it to get at the roots, and the ground there is full of coffee rock boulders so the roots must have been stuck in between them like glue. If we had known it was so stuck in we may not have been so concerned about it falling during this wet and landing on the shed, mind you it had to go because even if the whole tree didn't fall some of the large branches would have.
Never mind the kids, isn't it funny just how many of us adults can happily stand and watch a big machine at work for hours. I caught myself walking past and just having to stop and watch for a 'moment' just to see how he was going.
Yes, Jo does come over well, bubbly and fun, lots of people comment they enjoyed listening to her. She won the Kimberley & Pilbara ABC Heywire last year and got a week in Canberra from it with all the other young people from round Aussie, which she really enjoyed.
Missed the replay of Malcom's show would have been nice to re vist what we all looked like all those years back. I have forgotten when it was filmed but that show must be 10 perhaps even a few more years old. Be nice to still look more like one may have 10 years back ah.
The locking away consists of sitting in the office all day and still not being able to keep up with the phone ( which goes constantly) and paperwork !
Gets easier from now on as it gets quiter, which is why I normally only come on forum any time between Oct & March. Our tourist & cattle season is so short, but so flat out keeping up with as they both happen at exactly the same short time period.
Yes thank you, Wayne's leg did finally get better. Considering he is no spring chicken and where the cut was, he was very lucky to not end up needing skin grafts etc. They did think the stitches and skin may not take, but all was well in the end. He is now enjoying a well earned ' wet season' break back home in Queensland.
Would never cope the season here without a few of our long termers like Wayne.
Telstra want to put in a proper pay phone phone. That blue one is a pain we spend more time trying to dig out stuck money etc than it does working but everyone loves it so much in the fridge that I don't want a new one.
Will eventually have to I guess. We had a gold one which went ok, they ' upgraded ' the radio line speed and the gold then wouldn't work on it so had to have it replaced with a blue one which is the biggest heap of you know what, that I have ever seen. It's just a constant battle with the coins either falling through or jaming, if it worked ok for you then you did well !
cheers, Anne
