Translated that means I can't fix and nor can my computer man.
My computer intermittently disconnects itself from the server in Internet Explorer and Outlook Express while still remaining connected on-line. My two little computers and the bottom right hand corner of the desktop still remain on.
I am on Dial Up and 48 to 52kbps.
I then have to disconnect and reconnect to get IE and OE working again. I may stay connected to the server for 5 mins, 10 mins or 3 hours. Its random.
My computer is networked to another one on our property.
Any ideas?

Hi Willem
Used to have the same problem, changed over to Mozilla Firefox to replace IE and Mozilla Thunderbird to replace OE and the problem solved, both are free downloads from the Mozilla site.
Regards Ray
Me thinks Bill gets a kickback from the number of redials you do

Thanks Ray. I have a disc here with both programs on it. At one stage I had them both down loaded but for some reason I have taken them out again. I take it that once installed I would have to remove IE and OE? to make the systrem work better.

Hi Willem ,the key here to me at least is the fact you have the PC networked and wish to browse the internet too.
My best educated guess is the following,
XP Home is not designed for multiple networks to be active at the same time. It will only allow you to have one TCP/IP stack active at a time.
Since the modem and the ethernet card are both network interfaces the operating system will select one or the other, not both.
Problem wouldn't happen to coincide with file sharing or something between the two PC's would it? If so, XP Professional will do what you require.
Geoff.

Thanks Geoff
I will put your comment to my computer man.
I have taken Ray's advice and have installed Mozilla Firefox and Thunderbird. Will see if this improves the situations.
Many thanks for your help.
Cheers

Willem, Ray's idea is without a doubt the simplest to try first off.
Go for it, let me know how you get on.

Hi Willem
You can leave IE and EO on, just not use them. Set Firefox as the preferred browserand Thunderbird as your preferred email. Occassionally I come across a website which will only accept IE.
We use XP home with one computer as the main and three others connected to it so that we can share files and also all can use the internet as long as the main one is one and we have had no problem with the system although cable does have its advantages

Also just a couple of clicks of the mouse to import all of your bookmarks to Firefox as
well as all of your address book and folders fromOE to Thunderbird.
If you do a search, I'm pretty sure I posted some tricks for speeding up firefox a while back. If you are interested but can't find the post, let me know and I'll put them up again.

Willem,
Might be a good idea to re-run the Service Pack 2 update and then make sure all further Windows Updates have been applied.....
Cheers....

Ihave a 5 node network. 2* 98, 2 * XP pro, Xp Home (fileserver).
98 used as internet sharing.
I had the same problem - switched to mozilla and haven't looked back.
then also upgraded to XP pro - so much better.
strongly recommend mozilla.
Regards
Techie.

Thanks Techie
I installed Mozilla yesterday and so far the problem has stayed away. So maybe it is a problem with IE and my networked computers.
