Just completed the CSR from Wilunato Halls Creek.
Here are some of the statistics which may be of benefit to others when planning the same trip

Vehicle - 80 series Toyota L/C Turbo Diesel
Tyres - Cheap Chinese made, $155 ea, AT's, 5000 km at start of CSR
Punctures - Nil
Tyre pressures - Front 24 psi, Rear 28 psi, for the complete trip
Car load - Approximately 600 kg including extra water & fuel
Fuel consumption - 5.5 km per 1 litre of fuel

Only fuel available - The Community at well 33 and Billiluna
$ 2.20 and $2.00 respectively

Track condition - 75% corrugated from small corrugations sit on 40 km/h to very bad corrugations sit on 10 km/h, worst section 20 km S of well 33 and 40 km N well 33, passed 7 cars with broken/damaged suspension and shock absorbers

Run up to most sand dunes badly scolloped, I think due to too high tyre pressures and speed.
With my tyre pressures had no trouble getting up at slow speed

Savory Creek crossing was mainly dry with a small muddy patch

The Trip from Wiluna to Halls Creek took 10 days without any side trips except to Wolf Creek Crater

If anyone would like more info, happy to oblige

Cheers

George,

How much fuel did you carry and based on your consumption how much would you carry next time?

Thanks

Peter

Hi Peter,
The L/C main tank takes 95 L and the auxilary tank 50 L, we carried 4 jerry cans, total 225 litres.
That was enough to get to the community near well 33 from Wiluna, with about 30 litres to spare.
If you are going to do any side trips off the track then you would either need tyo carry more fuel or arrange a fuel drop at well 23 from Capricorn Road House

Cheers

Hi George

Sounds like you had a good trip

On my first canning adventure I soon found out what vakue spare shockies are!! Busted 2 early in the piece. Fuel consuption on that trip was 3.8km/l opr 10mpg!!! in a FJ 55 Landcruiser. We did a side trip out to Helena Spring and arrived at our fuel drop at Well 23 with just 9 litres left in the tank........whew! close lol

This year we only did a short run, Well 33 to Well 22 on the CSR and ran tyre pressures at 24.

Our trip along the Canning in '94 took 4 weeks

Cheers

Hi Willem,
It would be pretty expensive these days at 3.8 km/L
I think correct tyre pressure and less speed makes all the difference
Next time I will do all the side trips and take 4 weeks, spend a couple of days at the good spots

Cheers
