I was wandering what advice people had on second hand, near new 4wd tyres 265/70r16 for a Prado. I do a small amount of offroad work.
Or does anyone know any recommended brands for new ones.

Cheers...........Clinton

When I was young and poor instead of old and poor, I tried retreads and second hand tyres. My advice is don't touch them unless it is a very short term thing. Save up and get a new set. They are the only thing between you and your family, and the road.

Depends on the tyre. We can afford new tyres but came across 5 near new tyres a couple of years ago (in fact one was new). Half new price, we got them and are still using them. Apparently the guy was starting his big around OZ trip, got 1000km and had a masive heart attack - no more trip and sold the tyres for what he could get for them on our small island where we live where nobody wanted tyres.

I also used second hand tyres for 90% of the time for 27 years on my rally car - the only way I could keep racing on a limited budget. Choosing carefully, I had no problems.

I bought 4 Goodrich tyres from Milperra Tyres, about 90p.c. tread, at about half the price of new ones. I then did the big trip around OZ including Cape Leveque, Cape York, Bungle Bungles and the CREB track and did not have one problem with them. I do know that if I am going to wreck a tyre then I would sooner wreck a $130 tyre than a $300 tyre.

Well said Keeny,
Recently i stumbled onto six Wrangler MTR's(two new and four 75%)in the trading post for four hundred bucks.New price is $305 each. They were off his pathfinder and as he had upgraded to a patrol the tyres were of no further use to him.I actually did the deal for $350 and are great for my off road set and will get years from them.
Couldn't be happier as have found them to be a great tyre.
