Hi Guys,
I have purchased a portable hot
water shower unit and am wondering if anybody here has installed one in a GU. This is the kind that runs off the hot
water system from the engine.
If you have a pic of where you put the heater unit, that would be great.
Cheers,
Patrick

Patrick.
I dont have a picture but I can sugest that you check if the heat exchanger is aluminium and not copper, some of the early units were copper and this is causing corosion problems in the form of heater core failures. The important rule is if the main radiator is copper use a copper heat exchanger, if the radiator is aly use an aly heat exchanger. Eric.

Thanks Eric,
I hadn't thought of that either. I will be checking
mine today.
2003GU,
I have one in a separate carry case with gas type connections in the lines to connect when I want to use the shower unit.
Cheers Trevor.

Thanks Eric, just what I need.....something ELSE to worry about!!! I have a Twyne copper heat exchanger which I've had fitted the Patrol since it was new (5 years) and I also have a big mutha aluminium radiator from PWR......
So far no
sign of any corrosion or leaks in my system.....hope it continues that way for many years to come.
As for the original question.....
mine is a 2000 4.2GU TD with ABS (which means lots of extra plumbing across the upper section of the firewall). I mounted it using a couple of brackets I cobbled together and bolted to the firewall using 2 blind bolts above the inlet manifold. There is a convient point there where the heater hoses have a join and you can quite simply rig up an alternative hose onto the inlet side of the heat exchanger and the outlet side hooks onto the original hose which goes into the firewall.
As for the pump, I mounted
mine on the left hand inner guard.
Hope this helps
Roachie

roachie...might not notice any damage untill too late.
the problem is the disimilar metals and the amount/strength? of eddy currents the copper/alloy mixture will produce, not forgetting the coolant solution and disolved oxygen adding its bit to the whole affair

Hi Michael.. I've noticed you are clearly a Nissan Lover... could I trouble you for an e-mail address so I can ask you about your 4.2's. I have a 1999 2.8TD which I am contemplating trading in for a 4.2 and want to make sure I'm not just upgrading my hassles. Cheers
( Everyone else my applogies for doing this on the public
forum, but as I am not a member yet I can't contact members any other way. Cheers)

4.2TD is clearly a great engine and drivetrain. A
well tuned TD or TDI will keep up with a 4.5 or 4.8 Petrol. Our 1999 has 330,000ks on it and never had a spanner on it other than normal servicing. My problem is im due for a new vehicle next June, Do I get the current UGLY box with the old 4.2 and ridgid front or wait for the new model and find its lost the 4.2 and get independant front axle..HHMMMMM.. Anyone know when the new model is to be released next year??
