Hi all,
I have a Prado turbo diesel and would like to install a dual battery system. Repco and Super Cheap Auto both have an off the shelf system, $224 and $100 respectively. Big differnece and probably big quality difference. Are there any opinions out there re either.
Optionally, I have investigated a number of swtiches that can isolate a single battery and can run / charge the second. None of the "kits" I have looked at have any instructions. Can anyone help? How does the second battery gets charged when it is switched "off".

Pahrana have I believe the answer to both your problems, they may the battery kit, and can supply a charging device that takes your prime battery to full charge and then switches surplus charging to the second battery.
The latest model gives an indication on the dash, when the second battery is being charged.
Give them a call they will send you out full details, and how to do it yourself, it is not a complicated task.

Do a web search for Rotronics, Kelvin Grove,
Brisbane. They make several kits in varying degrees of complexity. I think the one I have in my cruiser is the base model. It has been in for 10 years now and I have never had a problem. When I worked for the Main Roads Dept, this was the only brand they would install in their plant.

I would get the piranha tray and Rotronics isolator for the Prado.

Have to agree with Stan ... if you have a Prado 120 then the Pirahna tray & Redarc isolator was the simplest cost-effective solution i could find. I also added one of those Jaycar voltage indicating terminals (replaces the normal battery post terminal) to one of the second battery posts so i could roughly check the charge left in the battery
