My 1991 GQ TD42 patrol when I start it up from cold the oil pressure can take anything up to 7 seconds to come to operating pressure.
Also when I park it facing down hill the filters seem to drain themselves dry.
The vehicle has been serviced every 5K with good oil and filters
Thanks in advance

What brand of filters are you using? Coopers filters I have had this problem with, genuine ones Ive never had the problem with, and they are no more $...

Truckster

Am using Fleetgard filters and Penrite Diesel 15. The problem does not always happen. If I do long trips say where the engine is at operating temperature the oil pressure comes up up very quickly, however if I do a short trip and start up next morning the filters are dry

cheers

Charlie,
I'm curious as to how you know the filters are dry? (without taking them off to see that there is no oil in them of course).
My GU 4.2 also takes a few seconds to get up enough pressure to turn off the light (and the buzzer that I've installed running off the same circuit). I don't believe this is abnormal in any way as there is always gunna be a short period of time when there is no/little pressure.
Cheers

HPR 15> 15W50. It is nothing to worry about; when the oil and outside temp is cold the oil will take a bit of time to get pumped around the engine and build pressure, When the engine is warm the oil has thinned out a bit so will flow and build up pressure faster.

A thinner oil would build pressure more quickly but would also thin out more and offer reduced lubrication and oil pressure during hard driving, you may also notice that the Penrite will hold better oil pressure in hard driving applications as it will not thin out as much a similar 15 rated oil as it has a wider Viscosity rating.

Don't ever think a GQ oil pressure guage works lol. They all have faulty senders.

Isn't that the truth.

The GQ oil pressure guage shows that you have oil pressure, probably and that is all :-).
