Hi all
We have just(well about 6 months ago) bought an on road camper trailer and we are having a lot of fun in it(we being myself and my wife plus 2 young children)
We started just going to the normal council campsites on the Gold coast(thats where we live)and then where talked into by fellow campers to try a couple of bush campsites namely Bigriggen(near rathdowney) and Woody head (near iluka),both of these where great with the open fire, nature and piece and quite
Now we wonder if anyone knows any other great places we can visit within 2 hrs drive of Gold coast(prefrebly with showers for my wife,i will have a pommy wash lol)
Thanks in advance
mike

Mike,

For some ideas do a search for Dirty Weekends In South East Queensland. The author of this book and in fact several others is a guy named Brad McCarthy and he really gives some good information. Included in the books are trip information and camping spots to look at. This could be a great help to you.

Hope this helps.

There's a state forrest behind Mt Warning with a great little spot, dirt road but an easy drive.

mickypj,

You could try a private campground called John's Landing it is on the Noosa River near Tewantin it has showers, toilets (drop) and the river right at your doorstep. I would say this place is good to go for no less than 2 nights as it would be the full 2 1/2 - 3 hrs drive from the GC. Costs $10 per car and hot showers are 20c for a couple of mins (cold=free). Phone 07 54 471 806

A bit further up is Inskip Point near Rainbow Beach, no 4wd to get here but would help to get best campsites. Here there is no showers but is still a great place and well worth a visit. Probably 3 1/2 hrs away.

Otherwise look for "dirty weekends in South East QLD" book in most bookstores for plenty of other sites.

Hope this helps and hope to catch up somewhere in the great outdoors.
Regards Trevor.

mick, I agree on Woody head, I stumbled across that site years ago, by chance, and have gone back many times. Took a magnificent Jewfish from the rocks there one morning. Unforgettable.

A couple of sites I can suggest, a little more than 2 hrs though, more like 3, but worth the drive inland. Girraween National Park about 30km South of Stanthorpe. Also, Bunya Mountains, roughly between Toowoomba, Dalby and Kingaroy. Both very nice spots, with adequate facilities. Something different from the coastal experience.
