My Jackaroo 3.5 Petrol will occasionally over rev on cold start to about 1500 -2000, and will settle down after a few minutes to normal.

I wonder if it might be the O2 sensor as the car is 7 years old, with 110,000k.

I haven't gone to the dealer to diagnose with TEK II as it has only happened a couple of times.

Any ideas would be appreciated, as would a supplier where the O2 sensor can be obtained if required. My Jackaroo has one sensor in the Y pipe, not one in each of the downpipes as in some models.

The problem is different from the normal "automatic choke". I have owned the car since new and it never revved to 1500+ rpm when cold, only ever to about 1000-1200.

It wont be the O2 sensor. O2 will only let it run rich thats all.
It will be either a dirty concection on the crank angle sensor {CAS} or and most likey the {Auto induction valve} AAIV will be getting stuck open. They can be stripped and cleaned or just replaced. Expect to pay about $250 fitted.

If you are really unlucky the seals in the injector wil be shot and feul will leak into the motor over night, however the symptons are normaly, the car wont start first go - then stutter and then finally over rev.

check you computer for any codes anyway then clear em.

98% it will be just a dirty air bypass valve on the throttle body, check out the diy section on australia4x4 isuzu forum for details.

Need one of those link thingys, c'mon Baz, sav, adam, someone.....

Cheap easy job which makes a big difference to the smoothness of the engine.

Thanks guys, I have a job to do on Saturday morning!

I'll clean/inspect these things and reset the computer (battery off) while I'm doing them.
