To caravaners , what is the general opinion of Opal caravans and are they still being manufactured ??
Now to my query on 80 series Landcrusers , viewed one recently , a privately owned 1990 HZJ non turbo , mileage aprox 290,000 original motor , body looks in very good order, 2 battery setup with plugs etc to feed deep cycle battery in caravan when not connected to solar panels .Asking price $ 15,000 . I personaly thought that sounded reasonable . Looking for comments or advice please

Hi Brian:

Can't help you with the caravan query, but I have a 1991 80 Series diesel and it is rock solid. Not the guickest car on the road (by far), but reliable. I have also been able to option it up by watching eBay and saved heaps.

The headlights are none too bright (a Pirahna wiring loom seems to be the best way to fix this) and the gearbox can be a bit "notchy", but these are the quirks of the 80 Series.

But it is built as stong as can be and mine has handled everything I have dished out to it with no fuss at all. Asking price seems fair to me. Good luck.

Hi Brian,

Have a good look around for 80 series at the moment.

2 weeks ago I picked up a 1991 1HZ GXL 80 series wagon with 279,000km on the clock for $10,800. This was from a Toyota dealer and was a one owner vehicle owned by the service manager of the Toyota dealership. Very well serviced and maintained and included roadworthy and 12 months rego.
Extras included aftermarket turbo, alloy bullbar, aux. battery with isolator, electronic rust prevention system (although with the amount of Tectyl sprayed through this truck you would never know if it actually did anything anyway).

Just saying this Brian as I have seen a few good deals around in the last couple of months but you have to be cashed up and ready to pounce on them.

Good luck in finding the right one for you.

Cheers,
Brett
