Greetings folks. Long time no post. Nevertheless it is once again time for a new set of tyres on the truck. I have an 80 series cruiser with standard rims. A friend highly recommended the BF Goodrich Mud Terrain T/A which he has used for the past 10 years. They get him 60-80,000 kms, look great and are an excellent tyre. However he suggested they would likely need ABS (which I dont have) due to on-road performance not being as good as the YOKOs A/T I have on there at the moment.
Im sorry to raise another tyre question and hopefully wont start a huge debate :-)
I would like to hear from people who have these tyres on their vehicles and their thoughts. Is noise a major problem with these tyres?
The Mrs mainly drives around to the shops etc once a week and we have quite a few dirt roads in our area too which we often haev to traverse. Naturally there is
camping and 4x4ing at least 4 times a year too - that goes without saying.
Thank you in advance and I look forward to your suggestions/thoughts as always.
Regards, Marko

Noise is quite impressive Marko with these tyres, as is wet road holding and directional stability on-road. S3x appeal though is high, I am sure your wife will hate them.
mine does.

Thanks Bonz. I imagine when you say noise is impressive you mean they are quiet (or you get some strange enjoyment from noisy tires)?
Mrs Marko has seen them on her brothers Patrol (the friend originally mentioned - and thought they were sexy!!! )
COOL!

I have BFG MT's and no ABS and haven't found them a problem on the road. Surprisingly I haven't had an issue with them on wet roads either and I drive wet mountain roads regulary. They are not that noisey but as they wear they are getting noiser. I have done around 25k and have more than 56.38% left of tread. But maybe an AT is more suitable for your application?

Don't want to sound picky ... but how can you have more than such a precise amount??
Just curious, obviously you went to great trouble to arrive at 56.38%
Oh! & were you allowing for the unusable tread depth below the indicators?

I was just having a bit of a joke at the same time Shaker! I should of said 56.38% approximately instead lol.

Im running a 100 series with BFG AT's on it and they are fine on road and also work pretty
well off road, mainly in the
Vic High Country.
I have ABS but have not had to use it yet, so happy about that, if only 4WD 4 times a year then maybe the AT's are a better bet?
As for wear currently done about 23k on thm and would still ahve about 60 to 70 tread at best estimate. I have been rotating and balancing the tyres every 10k.
A friend runs the muddies but he does a fair bit more off road than i do and he rotates them every 5k, seems to singnificantly increase the wear rate.
Hope this helps,
Mark

hi ive had BFG muddys on for about 2 years and have done over 50,000kms and ive given them a hard time on the black top and in the high country on rocky track and they performed very
well. they had a very hard time when i first got them as i had just got im licence. as for on road driving wet and dry they seemed to perform very
well i thought for a mud tyre.

I replaced my MTRs with BFG MT's a few mths ago - ONLY cause I got them at an unbeatable price, plus no supply of MTR's at the time :(
I now regret it.
They handle like marshmallows on the road, roll and slide around even with upto 40psi in em.. THe treadblocks just roll around, and roundabouts are a whole new world, compared to my MTR's. For me - they are hideous, in the wet they stink...
But if your looking for some 33x12.5x15's, you can buy me some MTR's in that size, and have my BF's, only 1000klms odd on em.
Go with the MTR's. You will never look back.
