Hi Dave,
Sorry but wanted to contact you and wasn't sure if I posted a follow up after so many if it would be you who would end up with it.
I am very interested that it was you ( thanks) and would like more details. Is it possible for you to email me direct please ? Just use our web site, the address is all over it.
I also don't know how message came via Hobart but it did.
cheers, Anne

Anne,
I was the person who called the Derby base of the VKS737 4WD radio network about the fire, so not sure how Hobart got involved, but I too am distressed to hear how far the fire has spread (and still spreading). I only hope that we can all be more aware of the potential for so much damage by fire especially in remote areas.

Best wishes to you and all at Drysdale

Cheers
Dave

Anne,

Also sorry to hear of your problems caused by fools. Can't help the fires from here but the Hobart contact would be due to the VKS737 base there. The characteristics of HF transmission means that sometimes [usually] better communication is achieved from a long way away. Hence VKS has one of its important sites there. Being in lay back Tassy it also have a lower noise floor than mainland sites which can suffer from spurious HF noise from a variety of industrial and other sources. Polution isn't only CO2 and oil spills it seems these days !

Regards,
Ken

goodday ken & anne
anne very sorry to hear of the plight of the area
1 reason the message (or another reason) is a lot of the bases are now remotely controlled so the base operator no longer has to be in derby but may have been in hobart
