Hi, having just upgraded my laptop and transferring ozoexplore and natmaps onto new laptop. Have had to buy an adaptor(garmin) to convert from serial port to USB. Having done so , experiencing problems of laptop communicating with GPS.
Have since found out from Garmin that there is supposedly a problem between oziexplorer and USB ports.
Is there anyone else out there that has experienced the same problem? If so how do I overcome this problem. Also bearing in mind that i am not that computer literate.
Would appreciate some constructive advice on this matter.
Cheers and beers EricM.

Not sure if you are converting from a serial port on GPS to USB on computer, but if so that should not be a problem. Just make sure you have correct com port configured in Ozi, as these can change if other USB equipment is used between uses of adapter.

#1 I find you need to have the GPS turned OFF when booting the computer. Otherwise your computer may think the GPS is a mouse :-))
#2 You need to have the correct COM port entered into the configuration settings of oziexplorer. Find this out by going to the control panel and seeing which COM port is being allocated to your serial/USB adaptor. For some crazy reason, Windows will change the COM port from time to time.
#3 Make sure that your Etrex has "NONE/NMEA" entered as the "interface". This is the interface required for moving maps. If you wish to upload/download data such as waypoints and files, you may need to change the interface to "GRMN/GRMN". Some Garmins don't need to do this though.
#4 I'm assuming that your computer has recognised your serial/USB adaptor and has installed it.

Cheers
Phil

I am not able to get my new laptop to talk to my Garmin Etrek GPS with a USB to Serial port cable using Mapsource. However it does using a program called SendMap. Looks like my old laptop in now the navigation laptop kept in the truck as that works fine.

Have not got OzExlporer so cannot comment on that.

Ealy versions of ozi did not support usb transfer. Make sure you are using the latest version, you can upgrade for free at the ozi explorer website. You also need to make sure the usb box is checked in the coms section.
Hope this helps
