Hi i just wanted to thank everyone who has given me advice and good factual information. You have been very helpful and we appreciate it.
We think we have found a car. It is a 2005 nissan patrol st with bullbar, towbar, mats, waeco fridge,
driving lights, plastics, 12 months rego and stamp duty drive away for $49600. Only 28km on the clock! How does this sound?
We think it sound prety good, however I have just read one of the recent posts about nissan problems and hope we are making the right decision!
What do you think?
regards
Lenni

G'day
I assume its a 3.0TD? At 28k its just starting to run in. Make sure it has a service history ( ie it has been regularly and properly serviced ). When you get it change engine oil and filter plus fuel filter and air cleaner. Check that the rear diff oil was changed at 20k. If not change it.
Then enjoy.
Regards
Paul

Yes it is a 3 litre td manual. It is only 28 kilometres though not 28000 kilometres, or is that what you meant when referring to oil changes?

I assumed 28,000k. At the 20,000k service the rear diff oil should be changed. Sometimes this is not done hence my suggestion.
Mine has just turned 28,000k and is starting to settle in nicely. I use the Nissan semi synthetic oil.
Mine is NOT dealer serviced. I purchase the genuine Nissan parts, including the oil and have it serviced by my favourite workshop.
One thing I have learnt is to change the fuel filter every 10,000 rather than the factory 20,000. I always carry a spare fuel filter.

Paul

The guy said it had 28km on the clock so I doubt it is run in - it might need to get up to 28,000km for this to happen

Hi Paul, just wondering if you would mind answering quick question, We had first service done 5000klm at place of purchase nissan dealer and they put Voyager oil in it, I think this is a 15/40??. Just curious what oil you use, alot of comments have come up to use 10/40. We have a 110% reliable mechanic (not nissan dealer) and will probably go back to him next service. I appreciate any comments , thanks Michele

Why do you chnage the fuel filter every 10k? I change every 20k unless there's a problem. What the signifigance of changing it early if there isn't a need?
Just curoius because I am no mechanic...
cheers

G'day
Firstly Chel - I purchase the Nissan semi synthetic from the dealer spare parts counter also required filters etc and then provide my mechanic with the items necessary for the service, I keep my purchase receipts and my service receipts to keep the warranty valid.
Andrew - On a recent holiday I had the filter changed at the required 20,000k interval and a far bit of
water and other rubbish was found in the bottom of the filter container. The servicing agent ( non Nissan) stated that it was not uncommon for this to occure and suggested a 10,000k change to pre-empt any possible problems from dirty fuel. I also keep my fuel receipts between fills so that I can prove were fuel was purchased from if I get a dirt load.
I am reliably informed that Nissan will not accept a injector pump warranty claim if they can prove dirty fuel.
Regards
Paul

Hi lenny,
congrats on your purchase.
We have a 2005 3.0TD manula patrol, done 29,000kms, and are rapt with the car.
If you are into a bit of
camping whislt 4x4ing, I would highly recommend getting a
snorkel, 2nd battery, and putting a lift kit on the car.
happy driving in the future

Hi Lenni,
Well done, we purchased ours in July, it's an 05 3.0l, was concerned about the motor but with warranty and proper
services we are crossing our fingers. We added
snorkel, 2nd battery, timer. Very pleased with purchase enough power, we had upgraded from a 97 GQ 2.8 TD. Hope you enjoy and have plenty of years of trouble free driving, Cheers Michele
