Was wondering on the expected cost of getting a 3" mandrel bent exhaust fitted to an 80 series turbo diesel. Also, can all exhaust places do these, or do they need special pipe bending equipment? Anything to watch out for when getting them to do the job ... Has anyone done similar?

I got prices when I did the GQ.

they ranged from $650 to Heaven... that was only around 5-6 places I called.. They can actually get it in in sections like normal and weld that together on the straight sections.

Most exhaust places should be able to help you out, but do call around,it pays

where are you?

Truckster,

Thanks for the info. About what I expected ($700 to $1000 was my guess). At the moment, I am on an oil exploration ship that just left Karratha and we get into Bali tomorrow... however, I will be back home in Melbourne (Northern) around mid January for my six weeks leave. Just deciding where to go this time and what to do to the cruiser.
Cheers for christmas and new year.

Mark,
I'll be honest with you, I got extractors and exhaust, and wasnt impressed.

I went Turbo and Exhaust and my pants are still suffering..

Even the wife noticed when I put the snail on, with the extractors, she didnt!

Wazza, Put a 3" mandrel bent exhaust on our 80 series turbo, about 12 months ago. Works well, fits well, and have had no problems with it. The brackets look a bit weak, but they haven't broken on our roads, yet. Cost $671.00, which included $65 freight. I didn't bother pricing the stainless steel kit!!

Got it from Beaudesert Exhaust & Radiator Centre, Qld. probably a bit far away for you. Freight would be a killer. ph. 07 5541 2767 They make a lot of exhausts for ski boats etc.

The only drama had fitting it was getting the rear pipe flange over the cross member, because have a replacement tank at back, didn't tell him this either when ordering, so clearance was tight against tank. Makes a noticeable difference to performance, and has improved economy a bit too. Merry Christmas...

Bob Y.,

Yeah I saw them advertising in one of the mags, so they do send the kits out everyehere. You are probrably right about the freight ($$). I like the idea of getting it done locally as I can take it back and get it fiddled with, and if I can get it done for around $650-700 then I will be happy. At the moment I am running straight through (as you know, technically not legal) but the sound is great. It is not loud at all and you got to love that turbo whistle! Just that the original pipe is squashed flat where it goes up over the axel and I wouldn't mind it tucked up underneath a bit more. Cheers.....

Wazza.
