ARB Diff Locks leaking air?

I have just bought a 100 series l/c that is fitted with front and rear ARB Diff Locks, with the compressor under the bonnet.

I was having a play with all the new toys yesterday, and noticed that the compressor seemed to run almost constantly when they were locked - only stops for a few seconds before running again for another 20 sec or so. I was only parked in the driveway, engine not running.

Is this normal operation for these Diff Locks, or do I have a leakage problem?

Replies from those in the know would be appreciated. The vehicle was bought from a reputable dealer, so if there is a problem I can get it fixed under warranty. Thanks in advance.

When I had the same symptons it turned to be the large 'O' ring behind the screw on reservoir leaking. Relatively cheap to replace, can't remember how much.

Hope your problem is as simple.

No, it isn't the reservoir leaking. It is fine if the diffs aren't locked, and also seems ok when just the rear diff is locked. The problem starts when the front diff is also locked. I can hear a small amount of leakage from the rear diff, but the fron diff seems to be losing much more. I just don't know if this is normal or if it is a problem.

If you can hear leaking air you have a problem.
Mine turns off when it reaches full pressure and does not turn on again until I have activated the lockers a couple of times to top up the pressure.

Check the hose connections to the diff, sometimes the hose can have loosened in the quick connect or you may have a solenoid issue.
If it sounds like it is leaking from "Inside" the diffs then you will need to get ARB to look at them.

Hi guys
firstly, remove each diffs breather hose and feel for air coming out in a rush...there should be none...but sometimes the orings in the locker itself wear and air escapes...this would explain why you cant heara leak.

dont mention if ifs or rs but mine is ifs
last year i had f/r fitted and no probs. 2 weeks later turned on to play cple days before off on trip(while getting ready) and similar prob to yours. back to arb and was a problem with one of seals from manufacture process-all fixed and happy-rear locker working now and compressor ok.
about 3 weeks later on trip and as soon as engage front locker the compressor either stayed on and wouldnt shut of until turn off front locker or compressor was on every 5 secs..
back to arb and same problem with front one-fixed by them
were having probs with certain batches of seals-apparently mine was not from suspect batch -but obviously there were more batches with probs.
been fine ever since
maybe your car has been like that from day one and previous owner didnt know any different or maybe previous owner never engaged the lockers.
take it back for warranty fix.
ps not saying thats problem but sounds very similar to prob i had
