AGM batteries

From research i have done i have established that AGM batteries are excellent at recharging quickly, but i have received mixed opinions as to wheather they are suitable to fit under the bonnet in the engine bay. Some suggest that the hot environment will have an adverse effect on the agm batteries performance or life.
Any experienced opinion would be very welcome thanks.

I mounted two coupled together as my auxilary battey & mounted them under the bonnet. They are still working fine two years later, no problems at all.

MARTY whats an AGM battery , how do they compare price wise to other batterys ?

AGM stands for Absorbed Glass Mat. They don't have the conventional plates and liquid electrolyte and as such can accomodate a much higher charge rate. from what i've read, they also can be discharged to a lower level without damaging the life of the battery. Google is your friend if you require a more indepth explaination. As for $$, I bought Remco 100Ah for around the $300 mark. I have a Waeco 110l fridge and as we camp for a few days at a time. I required a battery which could be topped up quickly to keep up with the demands of the fridge and the AGM fits the bill, albeit at a cost.

I have just purchased a couple of AGM batteries, and one now lives under the bonnet. It hasn't been there long enough to give you any information about its life, but on the recent trip to the corner they were both performing beautifully, better than any deep cycle battery I have had and I doubt I will go back to deep cycles again.

There was one day where we really gave the AGM on the camper a hiding, with the freezer running, then recharging the laptop after downloading some pics, and the kids watching a dvd, and because we had left the Camper for the day the solar panel wasn't out. It got down to 11.8V so I hooked the car up to it for 30 mins, which took it up to where I was comfy with it to stay overnight. I am told they can go much lower than 11.8 but I am still used to deep cycles and didn't want to get silly about it.

AGM batteries are prob the toughest of all batteries. Just stick it under the bonnet, it's good for it. My mates bro works for a battery mob and that's how i got mine so cheap.

You can mount the AGM upside down if you want. Won't matter it
