Reversing Camera mirror image

I'm installing a reversing camera and monitor that I bought over the net.
After a bit of stuffing around I have got it working, but when looking backwards (as a reversing camera does), the image on the monitor is a mirror image. That is, someithing on the right looks to be on the left on the monitor.

There is a grub screw in the back of the camera marked 'mir/unmir'. But it is a simple grub screw (with nothing behind it that I cn see or feel).

I've e-mailed the importer who says he does not know the answer, but will try to find out.

Though there must be a forumite out there somewhere with a similar camera who can help out. How do you adjust the camera to provide a mirror image?

Norm, try turning it, I think you will find this is the control for mirror or non mirror image. That is what you do on the ones I've been looking at.

What make did you get ?

Thanks Ken, I've screwed it. Nothing happened. I kept screwing it and the grub screw came out. It seems to be just a common grub screw in a hole.

I would have expected some sort of switch that you can turn 1/4 or 1/2 turn with a screw driver.

Other than the mirror image it works fine.

It is a model NP60 from Brash Imports. Cost $300 including infra red camera and postage. Not bad, providing I can sort out the mirror image problem.

Ken, I've got the manual (in Chinglish) and checked out the web site. Either I'm a dummy (entirely possible) or mine is different to that described on the web site.

It is the cable variety. Not difficult to run the cable. If I ever put one on the back of the CT, I'd think about wireless if the price is reasonable.

Hi

I haven't set mine up with a reversing camera yet (long term plan) but the 8" screen I have running from my lapop for Oziexplorer has the logic in it to select reverse image or not.

Perhaps it is worth looking at your screen rather than the camera to see if it has a mirror image mode.

Cheers

Mine is a different brand....but if there is a marking beside the grub screw, any chance that you need to remove the grub screw to reveal another "slotted gizmo" down the hole into which you could insert a small screwdriver and turn half turn etc?
Just a thought...

G'day John,
Mine is going great thanks. I'm a bit concerned about legality though......
Here is SA, the ABC radio has a bloke from Police Traffic branch on every Monday arvo to answer questions about all matters about road use etc.
I phoned in cos somewhere I heard/read that these cameras could be illegal.
He said that I have basically broken 2 laws:
1) I've removed my interior mirror
2) I have a VDU operating whilst I'm driving

I don't really believe he is correct about MUST have a interior mirror (as long as the exterior ones are fitted).

The VDU unit could soon be re-wired so that I can flick a switch to show the police that the screen only operates when I'm in reverse (he said this was the only time the screen should be operable). I would fit such a switch only to be used in the event that I get asked by the police; otherwise I would leave it on all the time whilst I'm driving....but I suppose I'd get caught if a copper was overtaking me and saw it on...hehehehe

Have you fitted yours okay?

Roachie, I've removed the grub screw. Looked inside with a torch and felt around with a jewellers screw driver. It seems to be just a hole with a smooth metal bottom.

David Brash from Brash Imports has been very helpful. He responds very quickly to queries. He just doesn't know the answer. He has committed to discussing it with the manufacturer in a few days time. I'll see how that goes.

Interesting about legality.

Mine clips over the internal mirror. When switched off, the screen is reflective and acts as a mirror.

I have wired it up so I can operate it when driving if I wish. I beleive it improves safety. Because of how I have mounted the fridge in the back of the Hilux, it limits the view with the mirror on one side. The camera overcomes this.

My external mirrors are quite large, so I have good view, just not immediately behind and up close.

I can understand the legality issue if I was to connect a DVD player or similar to the monitor, but not with just the camera.

Yeah Bill fitted mine with the monitor on the dash, leaving the internal mirror in place so I can turn it off if I don't want to use it.

Half the coppers out there would not know the ADR and would probably not really know if it was legal or not, I wonder why they would think that the image on the camera was any different to the image displayed in a mirror.

But good bit of gear, really shows that otherwise blind spot right behind the truck, helps with parking etc.

Cheers

P.S. If Willem does not want that top deck, then feel free to send it over here. LOL.

My father has a similar camera and monitor. He has the camera mounted on the back bumper of the caravan. On his the image is reversed by going in through the menu on the monitor and selecting to show the reverse of the image from there.

Cheers
