There was a thread earlier where some people were discussing the 12 volt ovens and how could they were.

I was interested in what brand or brands there are and which ones in particualr that were being discussed.

Thanks in advance for any responses.

Hi mark

they're just 12 volt ovens, available from Dick Smith or Jaycar, if you go into the dick smith electronics web site and type in stove, you'll find it.

Lyn thanks for the advice. Went into my closest Dick Smiths yesterday they had no idea what I was on about. Looked on their Web-site as you suggested and they are available at a different store. Thanks again.
Next weeks new toy. LOL

Mark,

There is an oven manufactured in Central Victoria. We purchased one of their first units 2 years ago, somewhat more expensive than the previously mentioned brands but they are practically bullet proof.
If you want more details mail me :- sunelec@netcon .net.au or

crystalair@impulse.net.au (the manufacturer)

$29.95 at Dick Smiths at Glen Waverley VIC, but they regularly have them on special for $19.95

BTW...the one that they have on display has a busted latch - I think I recall Jimbo saying that the latch is a bit suspect???

Latch is definitely suspect.

The trick is to push the lid firmly closed before engaging the latch. If you rely on the latch to pull the lid down, it will break.

Cheers,

Jim.

Thanks

Duncan,

Testing mine tomorrow. Instructions state will heat to 300F.
Hot dog 5 mins
Rice 30 mins
Canned soups/food 20 mins

All + or -.

I'll try the frozen pies and let you know unless one of the experienced users posts first.

Hi Duncan, frozen pies about 30-40 mins depending on how many you put in there I'd say, I just put them in when we start driving and then rotate them every so often, and when we're ready to stop they're ready. I start them off on their "lids" and then after a little why turn them onto their bottoms to make sure they're heated through, others may do it differently, it's a real matter of trial and error really.

Hotdogs I'd say take probably 10 mins, allowing for the oven to heat up etc.

cheers

Hot Dogs, like Dimmies, work best in a container (foil tray or oven bag) with some water to allow them to steam.

Cheers,

Jim.

Duncan,

Cooked one frozen (direct from freezer) meat pie. Wrapped it in foil (saves cleaning afterwards) 30 mins on one side, 15 mins on other. Includes warm up time for oven.

My taste buds still work pretty well so I don't subject them to 3rd degree burns. If you like your food piping hot then it will take a bit longer.

Quite happy with the results so far.

Hi gramps

another method is to just line the bottom of the oven with foil, which is what we do - saves on foil and cleaning...:)

glad you got good results so far.

cheers

Bought one at lunchtime today at Jaycar Melbourne City store. They are on clearance for $19.95 and there are no more left in the warehouse. Part no is YS2808. There are 2 left in the City store. The Jaycar version has a better plug on it than the Dick Smith one.
