Hi all

3 times lately the 4wd light on the dash has been flashing when i start the car. The jack has the auto locking hubs and the button on the dash, 3.5 v6 2001. It has never happened before and has only donw it a few time. Maybe even on raining days, but cant be sure.
IT is like when you first engage the button, its flashes.... I have tried engaging and dis-engaging, works fine, but the light continues to flash.

Any Ideas??

I would say there will be a fault code registered on the computer from the 4WD system, If you disconnect the Battery for 20min it might reset it, it still might come back but.

Best bet would to just go to Holden and have the code pulled to find out what it is, Or any other mechanical workshop able to log onto the internal computer and download the fault code and the big one that can read what it say’s.

well according to the workshop manual for shift on the fly models, it is most likely a problem with the front axle switch or the vacuum actuator. if it engages 4wd properly but still flashes then check the wiring harness from the front diff. If its on wet days them hopefully its just some moisture in the conector causing a short.

ps - thats the manual i downloaded from sav's post on the jackaroo site. get it if you dont have it already.

Hey mate

How are you going, given that job the flick yet.

Thanks for the tip, pulled all the wiring off, quick spray with the air gun and some spray. Took the diff breathes off cleaned them and also some of the hoses off the vaccum actuator, one sucked in a heap of air, figured that was my prob!!!!! all good now

Cheers

hey champie, yeah long rid of that albatros from my neck :-)))

Man never have i seen a place with so little respect for staff, but even worse - complete contempt for customers. and a total lack of any product knowledge.

Im back on the tools and loving it (building 8 million dollar engines!!)

Hope the prob is solved, as for the files - leave it with me.........

I see you are doing the trade show / expo thing (you lucky bugger LOL)

I've had a flashing light problem when the car is NOT is 4x4 for about 3 years now. Mitsubishi wanted about $450- to "try" & fix it. when I said you mean if you don't fix it I don't pay? & they told me pay up regardless. So I decided to put some elec tape over the light but never got round to it. The only time I even realise its flashing is when someone else gets in the car and asks about it. Car works fine & goes in & out of 4x4 whenever I want it to.

Have a friend with the same problem in a 99 3.5l.
4wd light flashes and 4wd won't engage/disengage properly.
The flashing light indicates that the system is trying or ready to engage 4wd.
But then it may be a faulty sensor :-).

Tracked it down to the 2 vacumm control switches on the inner drivers side guard in the engine bay.

Seems that the front diff has a vacuum control to engage 4wd and also another one to disengage.
Not using 4wd enough is part of the problem.
Check the hoses and clean out the switches.
He changes in and out on a regular basis each day on the way to work.
Took a few months, but everything working better now.

Quote for switches from Mitsu was about $300.00. Can't get them from the wreckers either.

whenn i was at dealership, we spent a full day buggerising around with a pajero with this prob, the front diff actuator was a bit bent, but the main prob ended up being the vacuum solenoids, only 1 was buggered and caused all sorts of funny buisness, we fixed it with a spare valve we had in the shop that had the same actuation. It wasnt a mitsu part, i think it was off a rodeo or commodore. so you will be able to find replacement valves that aren't from mitsu. Bosch would surely have something suitable.

I had this problem early on it the life of my 98 Monterey with TOD.

It was a faulty sensor/solenoid in the transfer case and was replaced under warranty. Took the dealers quite a while to identify which part it was.

They told me the Auto box had to come out to get access to the wiring loom into which the sensor is wired. Couldn't see any evidence of the box having been out, though, I suspect they were just lying to explain why it took so long.
