OK OK! Let's hope this is a real sale from Repco. Junk mail tonight advertises a 9,500lb winch for $699 ($200 off). Has anyone fitted a Repco winch and any feedback before I become the guinea pig? That's if they have any.

For $699 I would give it a try,

You may only use it only once a year.

It has 3 year warranty I read.

Brawn make winches do they ? gee your up to date

10 dollar winches , ill have some of them , like were does someone get a 10 buck winch . Comp dudes use high mount because they have a reduction drive gears , that make wnching slower , but much stronger . If your the only comapy supplying the high mount , its a little hard to go anywere else isnt it

get your facts straight , then come talk to me .

You agreed on the phone and understood the diffrence. Is it really so important for you to come hear and try to look good and win every argument . Because if this is the case , just let me know , and ill agree with you every time ..

Let me say up front, I import and sell these winches. So take what I say with a grain of salt. (Just to keep it fair, I've never mentioned which one(s) I import on this forum....)

Anyway, these winches are pretty good quality units. The Repco ones come from China with a 1 year warranty, so the second and third years are being worn by Repco themselves.

Now, not forgetting I do import and sell these units, we have had one warranty claim in about 6 months of trading. Thats it. That claim was for a broken brake unit from inside the drum, which was either a manufacturing fault, or a case of "bouncing" the landcruiser on the cable. No way of telling. We also have a supply of gearboxes, brakes, motors and remote units that we have not touched yet.

As to them selling the 9500lb units, I don't know why they are bothering. The 12000lb units are stronger, and don't cost that much more to purchase. If they can sell the 95000lb ones for $699 (don't know how - they must have brought in quite a few...lol..), surely they could sell the 12000lb ones for $799 or so. Ours retail for a little more than that, but we only bring over 35 at a time (the most a cruiser can tow..), so not too much of a discount for us. We also sell ours with the mounting plate and a cover...

Anyway, don't be too put off by them being made in China. Does anyone know where the Warne X-series are made, by any chance?

Cheers,

Chump

lol......i was thinking, what the hell? what bridge?

I pick them up from Botany. 35 Winches, mounting plates, and all the bits and pieces weigh 2.5 tonnes. My trailer weighs 1 tonne.

Any more, and I would have to hire a truck.

Cheers

Only one warranty claim in 6 months give it time, the hand control switches pack up the solenoid packs stuff up the motors rust inside and the brushes seize the bronze end bush dry out and squeel the sliding clutch ring stick there not enough room for the cable on the drum so when it bunches up the tie bars snap, just to name a few of my own experiences with these winches!

A lot of winches come from the same facatory. Brawn, TMax, Ox, Repco. They can't be that any worse that a xd9000 warn! They leak water etc if you don't maintain it.

ACDC,

I guess someone that sells the more expensive lines told you that.

Everything that comes out of that factory is put together by the same people. Different colors, different shaped drums, different stickers on the final product.

They are some mighty expensive stickers....

lol

Does anyone actually know where certain big name brands are made?

I have had a look around the Engel site - they don't say where they are made. Waeco admit they are made in China. Warne don't have any info either. ARB don't have a lot to say either......

It makes you wonder.....

Not worth correcting if your right or wrong , twas a time not even that long ago that ALL things made "in japan " was deemed as the pitts ,,look around now at cars/4x4/anything electronic/ ect.ect.ect ,, all the good gear in your own house and garage is made in japan /taiwan /korea /ect. so now put the ' ITS MADE IN CHINA ' good old Aussie crappola on to China ,,, If we as a country cannot come to terms that we are only a pimple population wise in the global scheme of planet Earth ,, f----------rk ,time for another beer.
