Hi guys,

Withs all the 4wdoty awards the disco 3 is winning i was wondering if anything is being developed to toughen the beast for trips like the CSR and similar??? or is it a tech'd up capable 4by that will only ever mount a gutter in toorak?

Whats that got to do with anything? AKAIK the army drive isuzu powers Landrover defenders. This guy is asking about aftermarket stuff for a Landrover discovery and i dont think he meant a mount for a 30 cal machine gun

WTF???

what does that have to do with the price of fish? im not asking what is a tuff 4wd im asking about the aftermarket parts and add-ons available for the disco 3 and similar 4wds (not softroaders). im looking at buying my first 4wd (60 series or old rangie) to kit up and i was wondering what the kids will be buying in twenty to thirty years from now to kit up for their first trip across the desert.

Go for the 60 series without rust if they still exist.
Old rangies belong at the tip.

That the army bought something is no recommendation whatsoever.

Buying your own personal kit is the only way to get reliability and quality.

The only reason bigger stuff is not swapped is that no-one can afford to do it.

They only bought them because they could not get Jeeps at the time, and have continued the contract since, much to the army mehanics corp dismay.

as good as this vehicle is supposed to be and with all the awards it has received it has one big problem - the price. there is also an enormous requirement for r&d before anything is able to be marketed. r&d will only be done on something which can turn a profit. unfortunately for disco3 owners there will be so few sold that the prospect of an aftermarket industry for them will be a non-event. no market = no profit and not even arb are in it for the good of you or i. as for what will the kids of today be doing in 20yrs - given the way the current oil situation is being allowed (encouraged) to develop then maybe the mad max view is not so far fetched after all. rgds
Slow down and relax......

ummm... there is a lot of after mkt mods avlb for 70+k 100's

Don't believe everything you read in 4wd mthly - the disco 3 will prob outstrip most 4wd sales.

dont expect too much, there MAYBE 5-10 of them that ever see dirt, and it wouldnt be worth ARB/TJM etc their while to make good bits for them.

Not many people can afford $130k+ (or so I was told, dont care they are ugly) to dent and scratch.

Truckster
unlike you, most people would only buy one.
They start at 56k for the 4.0i, 65k for the 2.7 td, up to 91 k for the 4.4i Toorak Tractor (how much is the top Tojo TD?)

What Crap Truckster - what Discovery 3 costs $130K?

Get your facts right before you open mouth - better still try engaging the brain before typing.

Model for model Discovery's are priced within a few $,000 of the 100 series Landcruiser so you would have to say that the pricing of the Discovery is competitive with comparable vehicles.

Sure, I wish they were cheaper, I wish Landcruisers were cheaper as well.

As for the original post - there is probably not a lot of after market stuff for the D3 at the moment but it will start to be developed. The odds are that ARB and TJM will not make a lot of stuff but there are plenty od Rover suppliers who will carry stuff made elsewhere.

Room racks are available, bull bars are available, diff locks are available, lights are available, and the rest will be obtainable from somewhere before too long.

Have a look in the back of a 4wd monthly. The did a story a while back about vehicle depretiation and I'm sure I remember the Rangie being around that price.

The old Truckster is not as feisty as he usually is - I was hoping for a bit more sledging to lift my dreary existence and to waste some of more of my employers time.

Can of spray-on mud off ebay????

Seriously, look at where thay have located the electronics, actuators and such before even considering taking it off road in Australia.

Vastly different design criteria, for vastly different environmental aspects. What works in europe doesn't necessarily work in Oz.

Go take one for a test drive along the tuffest bit of track in your area, then write in and tell us what your thoughts are. I was impressed, makes my T\D 100 feel like a dinosaur and brilliant seating arrangement. Will they be tuff and reliable? Wouldn't have to be too tuff to beat the current Toyota 100. Cheers Rob

Gareth go to AULRO they have info on the D3, there is one already setup for the G4 Challenge in the UK and there are bars, winches, roof racks all sorts of stuff for them now.

Your wasting your time asking about Land Rovers on this forum, too many smartarses.

I'd imagine that the availability or scope of aftermarket products will be fairly limited at this point. Not at all a reflection of the vehicles capability or offroad prowess, but more refelective of the volume of units sold, which due to the price-tag, Disco 3 wont achieve the high volumes necessary to justify the R&D $$$ for aftermarket companies to develop new products for the Disco3, not at this point anyhow. I'm sure there will be some items already available, but you probably cant expect the same variety of products as say might be available for a Patrol or Cruiser.

I agree with Rob from Cairns, drive one before you comment, they are awesome, and they are good value for money, considering what comes standard.
ARB took delivery of one of the first D3's in Oz, but the new 'lux came out about the same time, so ARb have been concentrating on the 'lux accessories.

I have also driven the d3 (not off road though) and thought it was quite impressive compared to my TD 100. The disel is very responsive and unbeliveably quiet. They are very expensive. ARB have a vehicle they are developing and I believe they will have a bull bar available shortly. I understand they are also developing suspension and some other products as well. Not sure about diff locks though as the vehicle comes std with traction control. (not sure how good it is though).
Cheers
