Hi All,

I've had a Uniden UH055 handheld lying around for a while and thought it might come in handy for the upcoming trip, but I can't find the antenna.

Does anybody know where I can pick up a cheap flexible antenna with a BNC fitting?

Preferably in Brissy.

Cheers

Truckster,

I tried looking on their website but couldn't find anything so I reckon I might just give them a call and see.

Thanks

Robak, Tandy have a variety of BNC connectors that you could then add 6'' or so of coax and shrink tube the whole lot together for less than ten bucks. Rus.

or, if you want to connect your handheld to a vehicle antenae for increased range then a BNC to SO-239 adapter for the same sort of money will do ........278-0120 Rus.

Thanks for your help Rus. Looks like a good, cheap option.

I'm guessing that the length of the antenna HAS to be specific length so it's "tuned" to the frequency, right?

I already have a radio in the car so there's no need for the extra range with a larger aerial, but it's good to know that the possibilty is there.

Cheers,

R.

Robak, I have a UH-056 handheld and it has an aerial length of 150mm measured from the BNC pin . The original Nicad packed it in and I repacked it with NiMh 1200 ma batteries that I got from a model aeroplane shop. Cost about $45. Rus.

Rus,

Thanks for the info. I think I'll give it a go and make my own, even if it is to see how well a home made one works.

Cheers
