A few months ago I snapped off the power antenna mast on my 100 series Landcruiser. I went & priced a genuine Toyota replacement mast and it was around $100.00.

So I went out & bought a non-genuine one for about $20.00. Seemed almost identical. I fed it into the antenna power uint in the wing and all was well for few months. Worked a treat - up, down,up,down, up.......................etc,etc

However, of late when I switch on the radio, the antenna comes up only about 8 inches and stops. I've stripped down the antenna power unit and released the antenna drive and rebuilt it and refitted it all - TWICE. It still won't rise more than 8 inches.

Any ideas would be most welcome as a complete, genuine Toyota antenna drive would require a second mortgage.

you can afford a 100 series....but not the antenna? why not get the $100 bucks added to the cruiser morgage...

the time you've wasted fitting and trying to get it to work suggests that it may have been more prudent to let the experts do it

Nudenut,

I bought the 100 series as part of a salary sacrifice deal when I was working - I paid the lease out at the end. As from last February, I'm now retired. Therefore I am "time rich" and "asset rich" but comparatively "income poor".

It's not just the $100.00 for the mast. That's the inexpensive bit. That's just the antenna, the "sticky up" bit.

It could be that the prob is in the drive motor and if a Toyota dealer gets his hands on it, that'll be $500.00 ++ for a new drive motor. You know how service people are.

However, I can afford that as well if I have to. But why should I when I've got time to spare trying to fix it myself. If somebody has some constructive ideas I will try them. After all that's what this forum is all about isn't it.

Thanks for your tips on life. At 60 years of age I really need 'em.

there should be an antenna switch on the dashboard, Auto and Manual setting. Try the manual up or down setting
Cheers

George,

I feel such a fool! That bloody button - I never use it. I must have nudged it last time I was out bush, prospecting, where I hardly ever listen to the radio. Mainly because where I go to there ain't no radio reception to speak of.

I never even gave it that bloody button a thought!

That was the the problem! I feel such an idiot.

George, you have my undying love, loyalty and servitude. I will sacrifice my first born in your honour at the next family barbeque.
Glad I didn't take it a Toyota dealer. Woulda been charged $100.00 just for pushing a button!!

Thanks,
