Hi to all you Frontera followers, have been reading the archives on the above topic. I'm wanting some feed back on calmini lift kits, (outcome and price) or any other and has anyone successfully replaced, modified and/or added a fuel tank which removes the anchor I currently am bearing? I've just returned from my second visit to Fraser Island with c.t at towe and have decided to spend some money on achieving the above. Was very happy with the Frontera, I travelled from Rainbow to Waddy where we set camp then set north for the spit, trouble free. Although, I did notice the fuel guage and tank. I have made some mods at a minimal cost but do feel its time to spend a little/lot more. Have considered updating car but am not convinced that it's the way to go after pulling out one prado, cruiser (short wheel base with jayco) and a disco.
Regards,
Luc

Hi Luc,

Haven't had much to do with the Calmini kits although I believe they are big in the USA where the Frontera is sold as the Rodeo. I have seen someone advertising them in a 4x4 mag I saw recently but can't remember which one. Great help I am hey?

If you want some good current Frontera info do a search on the Vauxhall Frontera as it is still sold in big numbers in the UK and their club has a good website with a load of good information.

Anyway I raised mine with a new set of heavy duty 25mm diameter front torsion bars, King Springs on the rear and Rancho shocks all round. I then added a new set of BFG All Terrain tyres and the car has improved out of sight. Have achieved a genuine 50mm lift from standard.

The last thing on my list is also the tank but as yet haven't had any luck with a suitable replacement.

Ours is really good and has been to a lot of great places and hasn't let us down once and we are really happy with it.

Hope this helps.

You might have a bit more luck with tech on www.outerlimits4x4.com . They have a section on GMH/Isuzu (down ATM for maintanance).

Also try www.4x4wire.com , good US site for tech.

Also try Planetisuzu.com

I'm pretty sure I've seen the Calimi kits on there

There is a couple of importers in Aus. one in WA I think

From memory the Calimi kit replaces the upper and lower control arms, crossmember, shockers, t/bars and other bits and pieces depending on how far (up) you want to go.

They also have a rear spring over axle kit which gives about 5" lift but it requires cutting and welding on the axle tubes and requires the front kit to compensate for the big lift, as well as shocks, line extensions etc.

Thanks for the feed back Brian, just a few more questions...What brand torsion bar did you choose and where did it leave you with adjustment once the load of the vehicle was taken up, were you still winding the bars up high to reach your 50mm.
My thoughts on the fuel tank was to modify the existing tank for height and add an auxilary tank, haven't researched it yet but i'm keen. Has anyone heard of this done?
