hi guys,
just got a gq 4.2 turbo diesel, wondering if its worth stripping out the wiring and starting from scratch with newer better wiring?
is there much benefit in doing this? as in, reliability? safety? anyone know and trust any good auto elecs in melb east? ringwood, croydon mitchum areas?

thanks guys.

Are you on drugs????

What do you want to gain? Maybe put a second battery in that new toy and run stuff from that. Settle down cowboy...

Hi S&N,
Unless there has been a previous melt-down, apart from maybe putting in a heavy wiring loom for higher-wattage headlights, there would be nothing gained in what you propose, and perhaps a lot to lose if there is a stuff-up. Existing wiring is quite adequate.

yeah thanks Ads!!! infact, ive been doing lines of coke off those dinner plates that you call spotlights!! hahaha.

why i asked was that the wiring around the alternator looks a little suspect! a wire terminating for no sane reason, excess wireing, spotlights dont apear to have a relay? dont know hew this works? maby i just havent looked hard enough??

is there really any benefit in putting in that piranah wiring set up for the headlights? does it really make a difference? although, every cent that i have spare will be going towards a lift and tyre package that a wonderful fellow from here is setting up for me, i was just interested in the wiring thing!

Yeah buying second hand isn't always what it is cracked up to be. Previous owner of my GQ had an engine management alarm system in. Took me months to rip out all the dodgey wiring. Nissans wiring is OK but I have some serious issues which I still havent resolved especially with guages which do not work properly.

I have installed all my own dodgey wiring running to and from a second battery and there are 6mm wires everywhere. Looks like an electricians nightmare LOL

If you have the expertise to re-loom the truck it might be a good idea. If you don't know what you are doing then leave it well alone and hope for the best!
