Hi all
I pick up a sr5 extra cab last wednesday and have a few questions. I tested the speedo with standard tyres with a gps at 100kph. The gps said 98-99. I put bfg 31x 10.5 at's on then checked it again and it said 103-104. I thought there would have been more of a change??.Anyone else checked with a gps. Standard tyres 738mm dia and BFG 797mm( Thats what the BFG web site says anyway). It seems to use close to 2lt per 100km more now. The speedo change would account for 0.5lt but the increase still seems a bit high.

Had a problem with the remote central locking to. Parked at a shop tried to lock the doors with remote and nothing then after a while it locked but would not open again. I had to push the button close to 10 time to get it to work. Spare key did the same. I moved the ute to another place and worked fine so I went back to were it was parked before and the problem was back. There must have been something upsetting the signal. Very Very strange. Anyway else had any issues with there keys.

Very happy with the ute so far. Beside the bent side step and missing cruise control.

I had similar experience with the previous model's fuel consumption after changing to different size wheels and tyres.

So UFC, what is your fuel usage like now after a few weeks?

Do you have a tow bar? If yes, any problems getting the larger spare in behind the tow bar?

I have got about 4000km on the clock now and my fuel economy has been really good. I did a trip down the great ocean road and up through the Otways with a small amount of off road. 750km all up with an average of 8.5lt per 100. I drove down at night so only did 85-90 most of the way. That figure is allowing for a 5% change due to tyres. I find with a small amout of around town and normal hwy speeds I get about 9.5 lt per 100.

I found out how to turn the seat belt beep off to. There is a fuction in the trip computer to do it. But you have to perform a series of things in the right order to get it to come up. Let me know if you need the instructions.

My rear springs are sqeaking lots hows yours.
The only thing I am not happy with on the hilux is the tyre size toyota used. I put 31 BFG on which are good but not legal. RACV cancelled my insurance when I told then. Who are you insured with

Sorry dont have the tow bar fitted yet.

Good news on the economy. You are doing a bit better than me, but I have loaded up with bull bar, canopy, drawer unit, fridge, 20Lt water container and always carry tools, recovery gear etc.

Yes, I'd love to know how to turn of that bl@@dy beep. It drives me nuts.

No squeaks in rear springs that I can hear. I've fitted the OME suspension front and back.

I'm also with RACV. No problem so far, but I only went up a bit in size to 265/70/15. Had planned to go to 31/10.5s next time to gain another inch in lift. Have you reinsured?

I could not find the instructions I used but I am 99% these are the right ones.

1. turn the key to the ON position, foot off the brake
2. cycle the odometer with the trip reset button until the ODO is displayed (not trip A or B )
3. turn the ignition to the LOCK (OFF) position
4. Get your seatbelt in your hand ready to put in
5. turn the key to the ON position. when the dash lights have come on, press and hold the trip reset button and count a slow 12 seconds.
6. while still holding the trip reset button, buckle the driver's side seatbelt.
7. the odometer display should read "b ON" or "b OFF". toggle the beep OFF with the trip reset.
8. the process should be completed when you unbuckle or turn the key off

Let me know how you go

I reinsured with GIO but the problem is all insuance company will not insure you if your car does not comply with vic roads. When I asked GIO they just said we dont care about you tires as long as they are legal. RACV first told me they dont care about tyres at all but when I asked someone else they said the same line about not caring as long as it is legal. I said they are about 35mm larger and they looked it up and found out that 15mm was all that is legal so they then cancelled my insurance. I should have keeped my mouth shut, there premium was very low. I doubt they wouldnt pay a claim for something like tyre size but they could if they liked and there would be nothing you could do.
